Description This is part of a small series "Der Tod und das MΓ€dchen" (Death and the Maiden).
Actually, two mini-series exist, consisting of two pictures each: one depicting death, the other one the maiden.

This is the first piece of the first series (called Death and...) which will be followed by "... the Maiden". It is also the first piece in which I did not only use textures but I also drew on the photos, the faces, to emphasize facial features. I always wanted to try out how shadows in certain areas can actually "draw" a face and add new features or stress already exisiting ones.

I definitely agree on the eyes. He has eyes that are...amazing. Very intense, even without the alterations.

Interesting idea to actually draw on the photograph. The effect is reminiscent
of Ralph Bakshi's work in the original animated Lord of the Rings, or Wizards. Not that your work is like his, however your approach on this is relatively similar. You didnit over-do it though. Looks great. I'm interested to see how the rest of the series pans out.

I never knew that he drew on the filmed material! So it's similar to "Waking Life"?
To be honest, what really inspired me were the make up artists at theaters, who have to accentuate certain features and bring out certain characteristics with make up, so that the audience sitting in the last row can still "see" the figures character. I have no clue about make up or how such effects can be achieved but imagined I would draw the face with a pen...still not perfect but it was quite fun to try out something new. And I am very glad that my experiment receives such a positive feedback.

Haven't abandoned the dark side but did not pay as much attention to it as I used to. I do have a few other dark pieces on my HD.

Awesome job Andy! It looks like death squared lol Meaning death looks like he's dying. LOL

I love the shadowing--it adds so much darkness--no pun intended. The darkness of emotion--not just the colouring.

Death squared...like that expression.
You're right, though, it does look like a decaying death. A death that's been doing his job too long.
Wait for the other death. He is a new one, a death with style, the kind of death that could swing his scythe anytime.

I've just taken a look at your piece (and commented on it) and I do hope that your piece was inspired by something else than experience.

To be honest, this piece is not so much about pain but was inspired by an idea I had for a future project, which carries the title "Death and the maiden". So I tried to come up with different interpretations of Deaths and maidens and their relationship.

So far, nothing new has been added to the project but as soon as there's news to announce I'll let you know.
Somehow the lack of time and energy really gets in the way of everything.
