Description
"I present to you your Princess of the Night, Luna."Luna's formal introduction to the Court of Canterlot. She's been away for a thousand years and her landing wasn't well accepted, so she's naturally a little nervous. Celestia knows she'll be fine.

I intended their dresses to be styled after a phoenix and an aurora, respectively. I wasn't too happy with how the feathers came out with Celestia, color-wise, so I recolored them to tie in closer with her overall scheme. The original's over in my scraps [link]
Damn, Luna's hair was fun. I like her expression, but when compared to Celestia's smooth as silk expression and lowered eyelid, I wonder if I drew her eye too large.

You managed to put all emotions in this pic. Celestia seems happy and gentle for her sister returns and in hopes that things will be alright. Luna, on the contrast, looks worried and nervous. I admit that I first thought this was about Luna's feelings of loneliness. The scarf in her dress (in Celetia's mane colors) seemed to me as how she feels traped because of her own sister's popularity. Again, this was before I read the description.

<3 these designs are so awesome. The poses and expressions are so fitting to the characters as well. I imagine Luna WOULD be super apprehensive to greet her people after a 1000 year stint of being a villain. I really like Luna's scarf thingie, I said this before when I commented on the design, but I like that it picks up colors from Celestia's pallet, since it brings in a common design element to show their relation (aside from their awesome magic flowy hair).

I'm glad that came across! I wanted the scene to be Luna's first real introduction to the court, so she's naturally anxious and STILL TRYING TO WORK OUT THE ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE, while Celestia's just her normal chill goddess self.
The designs of the two dresses were identical in the first stages - bodice laced up the back, simple skirt that belled out in the most impractical way - to tie them together, and then add the bits that were more personality-influenced along the way. Luna's original dress was this really old-fashioned gown, something she'd be more used to, but that quickly went the way of "what, what, WHAT are you doing?"
I would totally go live on the moon for a thousand years if it meant I got to have a galaxy for hair.
