It was actually a collection of short stories, some of them scary, some of them strange or unsettling, and others were just funny, but there were three of them and they were called "scary stories." I think the first volume was "To Tell in the Dark" the second was the same, and the third one was "More Tales to Chill Your Bones."
One of the most memorable things about that book series though was the illustration style used in it. The art style used in it was both beautiful and yet quite unsettling all at once. That's what that picture reminded me of.

Oh Polidori! His work is great! I don't usually consider vampires to be so much "monsters" just a different species of character, but that's mostly because of the way that Stoker interpreted them later.
Polidori's work is awesome though, he practically invented that genre... vampire stories that is.
I tend to favor older books, as well, so anything before about 1900... with a few exceptions, like HP Lovecraft, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, etc...

Yes, that's right !
I'm going to read "La morte amoureuse" = "dead lover" (i think) by Théophile Gauthier (1836) and "The vampire husband" in french "le mari vampire".
Lof of vampire story and great nightmare for my next nights haha !

I tend to keep a journal beside my bed so that when I wake up from my dreams I can draw or write or just scribble reminder notes of whatever the dream was before the vivid imagery fades away.
