Description these were all done in the same style as 'meanwhile on decatur' and i was originally going to post them as seperate stand alone manips. Something about them seemed more 'illustrative'-- like they formed some sort of narrative. The phrase Noir Orleans kept running through my head.
The words are inspired from an essay written by local new orleans author greg herren. The title of which is 'i haven't stopped dancing yet' from the book 'love, bourbon street'.

they just seemed to fit.

all photographs were originally taken by me back in September.

i would love to see these on a wall, with arrows painted in between, like a flow chart.

i thought the title was befitting.
im entertaining the idear of moving there this year. another good friend of mine wants to move as well. and it seems that there are certain.. changes and signs happening in my little pocket of space.. so maybe the universe is trying to nudge me. either way lately she's been in my mind and dreams quite a bit.

Great romantic atmosphere. If someone made this for me I would marry them.

thx! didnt make it for one person specifically-- the 'her' in the piece symbolizes the city of New Orleans.

very beautiful. it's very emotionally heavy. I looked at it and it felt like a shadow was cast over my heart... sweet sadness. almost like homesickness. well, I guess nostalgia.

I'd like to invite you to participate in if you're interested. I'm looking for digital artist who would like to collaborate...

you defiinitely nailed the sentiments. my choice of words and mood created was very intentional.

oh, I had no doubt about your intentions.
I think my invitation came across more like a signature in my last comment. would you be interested in collaborating with other artists for a good cause? check out my journal for more info. a "no" is ok, too. but I love your art and it would be great to have you on board!

I'm really digging this series of yours. There is something about it, I can't put my finger on it, but they style really speaks. The one thing that deters a bit is the type choice...I don't think that is the right font for it.

gregoriousone In reply to cogwurx [2007-12-13 23:43:20 +0000 UTC]

thanks r. i have been digging making it. so the font just isn't doing it for you eh? it is a bit modern looking compared to aged quality that the photos have. but i kind of liked that juxtaposition. But yet is grungy enough to sort of look aged.

oooWEE, i like these old-timey-photo pieces. the bottom one looks like folks on a ship. kewl.

gregoriousone In reply to landless [2007-12-13 18:28:17 +0000 UTC]

ahh yes the old timey days.
I guess the bottom panel could look like ship-- just one of new orleans ubiquitous balconies.

landless In reply to gregoriousone [2007-12-13 18:59:29 +0000 UTC]

if they're drinkin' rum, it might be a ship to them. arr.

gregoriousone In reply to landless [2007-12-13 23:46:22 +0000 UTC]

oh there was definitely rum flowing.
(it's the balcony of Bourbon Pub and Parade) and there be a different kind of pirate up there lassie.

Nice - I am ugly with jealousy for knowledge the techniques you used here - good work!

gregoriousone In reply to SonOfTheSea [2007-12-13 23:45:14 +0000 UTC]

thanks. now don't go and get yourself all ugly with jealousy-- there's nothing pretty about that
actually i only used a few different techniques-- mostly adjustment layers and some brushwork to give some parts a painted look.

Noirleans...Yeah, not how you spelled it...just like the play on words & sounds...the image is wonderful. The comments about your eye for design were spot on. Never had a mentor, exactly. I did have a guy waaaaaay back when I was a teenager who started buying up my old felt-tip on type writer paper art, it was the first time I realised my art might actually have some worth.

gregoriousone In reply to opiumtraum [2007-12-13 18:21:42 +0000 UTC]

oh sure go ahead and correct my spelling! I see how you are. lololol. I had two really great influences that laid the foundations for developing my 'artists eye'

opiumtraum In reply to gregoriousone [2007-12-13 23:11:55 +0000 UTC]

hehehe...it's a syndrome (not the constant correcting of people's spelling, I really don't do that) that...well...doesn't have a name..but one of the most overt symptoms is...I can finish crosswords that other people start, but I never start them myself, & when something is presented to me, like Noir Orleans, my mind just runs with it. Oh! I know what it is! My mind's half dead (paying for those hours in college I wasn't studying). It's Exquisite Corpse Syndrome. Duh. Of course.

hey there's worse syndromes to have! lol.

lovely style!

did you draw the letters yourself or is it a font (and if so, which one!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gregoriousone In reply to Nikolaj [2007-12-13 23:39:59 +0000 UTC]

thanks! those letters are not hand drawn-- it is indeed a font called-- keyboard plaque.
