Description i had this idea for a small series.. i was going to post them seperately.. then i (obviously) changed my mind.

we all have days or certain times that might seem ordinary, but contain small moments that stay etched in our memories.

one of my favourite lines from douglas adams books is
'vogon ships hung in the air in much the same way that bricks don't'

Me too but his books are full of them. I am just about to fininsh hey nostradamus, it's excellent. I haven't read a book by him that hasn't made me laugh question myself or cry. Those are what people aim for everyday and he does it efortlessly. i'm glad that you share my view as many people don't know who he is

Each of these brings to mind memories for me as well. Thank you for this. I am really very taken... unusually so, by your work. Everything that I have viewed since I started watching you either gifts me with a striking 'first' impression or plays upon some memory, memories or feelings that I had forgotten. There is a great deal of 'Boy' energy here and elsewhere in your work that hearkens back to a simpler, more innocent time without marring it for me; kind of like looking through the old yellowed, dusty and flyspecked storefront glass of the local pharmacy-cum-hardware store where you could buy sparklers and stink bombs from the old owner.

I grew up in a small town on the other side of the state so i completely get that 'looking in the window of the local pharmacy-cum-hardware store.
the boy energy can probably be explained by my acute case of peter pan syndrome. lol.
Ive always loved art that stirs memories or feelings, which is why i create the things that i do. Plus I just love taking old found papers and photos and adverts and using them in some new different context.
your insight and input is most appreciated thom...

I would love to paint things that stir deep feeling, but, well... everything that I paint comes from my intellect. I feel very deeply, but that doesn't show in my visual work much, if at all.

your work is still fantastic nonetheless. and while it may not be rooted in a feeling.. that doesnt mean it doesnt stir feelings in the viewers.

Hmmm. Yes, I guess you are right. I feel as though I am the equivalent of Arthur Clarke in the Sci-fi world. I would like a little Heinlein and maybe Spider Robinson or Douglas Adams in there too.

ive never been a huge fan of sci-fi books-- except for when i was younger and would read doctor who stories. And well.. there is douglas adams-- i am a fan of his writings.. about a year ago i went and reread his dirk gently novels-- and enjoyed them much more than i did the first time i read them.

Considering that I am a physicist and that Sci-fi was responsible....

those are some fine moments [especially the tomato/corn moment] - and interesting time frames as well. definitely a worthy exploration. i like the advert backgrounds as well since these seem plucked from the pages of some really colorful pennysaver circular or similar.

gregoriousone In reply to fredfree [2006-03-26 18:24:44 +0000 UTC]

I wanted them to look like something from a magazine or circular so it's good you got that impression.
I took that 'tomato/corn' photo a couple of years ago on the way back from a weekend trip. Love those roadside produce stands that pop up during the summer.
