A parasitean ugly duckling
forces itself into a chamber
It is protected
Held gently
with care
When the doors are unlocked
Pried open
forcefully
The parasite is no longer
A swan emerges
in the shape of a pearl
It is chosen
Held gently
with care
But a diamond
more beautiful
is now in sight
The pearl is left
to observe
this new gem, and more
A ruby
An emerald
An opal
Each is liked
Held gently
with care
The pearl
pushed into the shadows
lingers hopefully
The swan
no better than a parasite
an ugly duckling
