Description Guy 2 of the Raptors of the Legions series, Mattur of the Death Guard.

I freaking hate Nurgle. Really. About the only thing I like about the guy and his followers is the cyclopean design - I wanted to make him a cyclops, but I thought that would be too obvious, and the Mark IV is always indicative of some status within a Legion in itself. That being said, the God of Disease is a very well though of character, what with his laughing, paternal nature. But damn, drawing viscera and open wounds sucks...

So I focused on the things I like most about the Death Guard - the censors and the rougher armour design. I love rivet-reinforced trims. Tried to be original with the jump packs for these guys, and noxious gas-propulsion seemed like as good an idea as any other. The fly wings, I think, make for a good contrast, their supposed fragility contrasting with the Death Guard's legendary resistance.

While I am a fan of Nurgle, I am in agreement with you. GamesWorkshop definitely overdid it with the open wounds and puss-filled bloat slathered over most Nurgle art and figures. Many diseases cause that, true, but others cause the opposite; atrophy, the withering of muscle and bone until the poor bastard is reduced to a sickening, dried-up husk. The Machinist is way creepier in my eyes than a bastardized Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Oh, and excellent artwork, too.

I like the Fly look to the helm, works so well with the theme.

Cannot wait to see a Night Lords Raptor!

I'm currently reading "Lord of the Night" by Simon Spurrier... Just Wow! If you can get your hands on it, read it! It is amazing.

I'll try and read it, mate, thanks. And I'll be sure to put extra effort in the Night Lord, he's been requested by a good few people.

When I was in 4th gradeI rolled with the Death Gaurd. I used to be an avid collector and painter of those models. It's been a long time tho and I don't have even one left

I don't really like Nurgle's aesthetic...too...ugly, too repugnant. And yet, the fact that his followers are more or less good-spirited, familiar folks makes him very interesting. Take the Beast of Nurgle. The wretched thing just wants to be loved...

I've never seen nurgle raptors before! I really love the fly wings, it's a great idea.
Even if you don't like nurgle, I still think you interpret the whole concept really well.

They're kind of a self-centered bunch, but I'd be pretty surprised if a Raptor devoted to the Chaos Gods was that impossible. Don't think so, some of the Pre-Heresy assault marines were sure to have stuck to the Legions' beliefs while revelling in their predatory nature. Still, a few of the Raptors I'll be presenting are either Chaos Undivided or non-believers.

Thanks a lot, mate.

this is a beautiful piece as well. your incorporation of fly-like designs are a great addition, and you really get the sense that this armour has been slowly decaying over decades. the plain, undecorated armour is indicative of the death guard and fits well. it's the small touches though that make this really strong, like the tentacles emerging from the axe. the way they wrap around the chain really gives the impression that the are constantly roving with minds of their own. he also seems to be using his intestines as trophy displays and that is just one of the downright coolest things ever .

i do have some crits though. the skulls on the trophy chains seem too small compared to his overall scale, he is either a giant or he's been slaughtering kiddies i like the exhaust vents on the jump pack, and the wings help identify him as jump infantry. what bothers me about the design of the jump pack is that there don't seem to be any large air intakes, which is also something very distinct in power armour designs. i'm guessing (again ) this has to do with the angle, and that that's what the section behind his head is for.

sorry for the long rant, but i hope my crit has been constructive as i really think this is excellent. truly one of the best plague marines i've seen in a while

No rant detected, mate, thanks a bunch for taking the time to appreciate this. On the aspects you mentioned:

- Skulls: I like to think of marines as almost giants, never under 2,6 metres tall. Even then, though, I do have some trouble keeping skull sizes constant.

- The jump pack...I really went otherworldly with this one. That being said, most of the Raptors in this series will show some sign of mutation (except for those legions who want nothing to do with it, like the Night Lords).

Thanks once again.
