Description This is actually pretty old, but I forgot to upload it here or wasn't satisfied enough with it at the time. It's Ariel from the little mermaid in her pink dress.

Now this has to be a first ... Ariel painted in 18th century French portraiture style, after the manner of Marie Louise Elisabeth VigΓ©e-LeBrun! With a hint of early Bouguereau thrown in for good measure!

Seriously, I think you could make a fortune from this style of painting ... I don't know how you alighted upon this technique, but keep it up, you're on to a major winner here in my book! I can think of a good number of people who would klll to be able to paint like this ... if you can pull this style off with oil on canvas, there's some people over at the ArtRenewal website who will write out large cheques to commission you. I am not kidding. If you can produce images that bear this close a resemblance to French Academic Art, then several of the ArtRenewal patrons will fund your early retirement. Take my advice and check them out.

Ha ha. Awesome. I still like Jasmine better, but this is beastly work! For some reason, I get the feeling that that dress would be mighty hot in the climate she seems to find herself in. This is great stuff!

Poor Flounder!

Is it Dutch Baroque or Italian Renaissance painting that inspired you to draw her in this style?

GreyAnnis In reply to Cherry-Lane [2014-09-18 05:03:36 +0000 UTC]

Nah, it's mainly 19th century portrait paintings, like Winterhalter and such.
