Description
Reading was taken to the Woodham Scrapyard in Wales just for use a one of the test subjects for the Black Water Trials of 1962. Mr. Hartworthwanted to try and cover his tracks from railway preservationists so he could keep his social reputation intact. So of course the dead carcasses og the test subjects were scarpped at Crewe but Reading was given a different fate. Since he was the only survivor, Hartworth had arranged him to be taken to the dying locomotive sheds at Exmouth Junction to the further south. After 30 years Reading had awoken from his coma only to find he woke in the middle of nowhere. He remembered everything that had happened and could do nothing but break down into sorrow. Eventually a group of preservationists from the York National Collection found him in an old siding outside the old sheds and had taken him to the museum to be restored to working order. He was grateful to be alive but saddened to know that he was the last of the former LSWR express engines, the last of the southwestern flagship engines.
