Description There's one thing I refuse to do as a retro collector, and that's Turbografx16 collecting. It is a dark, wallet-busting abyss that I dare not stare into.

But now I might've started something worse: Famicom collecting. It all started when I found out the Retron5 can slap translation patches onto the ROMs dumped from import games, and I bought a complete copy of the original Fire Emblem, and things...snowballed.

This is everything I snagged up in the span of ONE MONTH.

Chojin Sentai Jetman
Dragon Quest
Dragon Quest IV
Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi
Ganbare Goemon: Karukuri Douchuu
Gradius II
Sugoro Quest: Dice no Senshi Tashi
Transformers: Convoy no Nazo
Urusei Yatsura: Lum no Wedding Bell

Thank fucking Buddha in a Buick that the Retron5 can't run Famicom Disk System games too. Or TurboGrafx16 HuCards, for that matter.

Speaking of that again, I do have ONE TG16 game: a copy of Bonk's Adventure I found at a flea market for five bucks, years ago. And I fear it might blossom like a herpes virus.

Cool, dude.
Didn't know there was a game for Urusei Yatsura.

Too bad it blows ass, and all the others are weird RPG/dating sims.

Transformers and Urusei Yatsura? Yea, great picks right there. I bet you bought them only for collecting sake. I'd never play these.

And ever since I bought myself a Famicom I want to buy some games, including Japan-only releases like Wing of Madoola, both Wai Wai World games, The Goonies or Layla.

There's a reason Big Rigs commands a high price despite being a bag of infinite ass.

Never heard of Wing of Madoola or Layla, I'll have to look into them. I know of Wai Wai World, but I haven't tried too hard to find copies. Mostly because it would be a bitter reminder of Konami's fall from grace.

You'd better check them out Not great games by any measure, but not major stinkers either, despite some frustrating mechanics and stuff. Action girls in games, especially from eighties are my kind of thing, just because having a muscular barbarian or commando as a lead is boring. I especially liked Layla so much that I'm seriously gonna buy an actual copy (I played this game on an emulator or a flashcart). I've also reviewed it for Hardcore Gaming 101, so you might take a look before buying.

Gradius II is hellish, though. Infinite continues, but continuing is so painful it doesn't really matter. And the original Dragon Quest... the prettied-up NES release for Westerners is a lot better, stupid Ye Olde English and all. And too bad the Zyuranger Famicom game is dreck. Ironically, if you want a good game SORT OF based on that, Power Rangers for Super NES is your best bet. -_-

Well..... If they are in Japanese how can you play them?

Most of my huge game collection is PS1, 2 and 3 games along with quite a few PSP games. The most expensive game I have is Class Of Heroes 2g. It is going for 289-500 dollars at the moment. I bought it brand new for 50 dollars two years ago.

I do believe I mentioned that, via a SD card, you can apply translation patches. Good in the case of Fire Emblem, because you know what's the only thing that can be a 'donor cart' for a Fire Emblem reproduction? Fore Emblem ITSELF! So basically you're paying someone to hack in the translated version, put a 60-to-72 pin converter in an NES cart shell, and create a custom label. Fuck that shit.

With password saves and sprites that can't look in any direction other than straight ahead. We Americans waited three years and missed out on Akira Toriyama's art on the cover, but what we got in the tradeoffs improved things.
