UPDATE: Changed the lighting and the hair a bit. Thanks for the feedback!This is a character concept for "The unknown girl" from another unpublished work of mine. Compared to earler renderings of her
(see below), this is a more "realistic" view of her since I'm currently experimenting with this style of portrait work.
This is one of those pictures that sort of just grew and matured along the way; there were no planning going on there ...
All painting done in MyPaint and GIMP, from scratch. Comments and critique welcome as always, it's the best way to help me improve!

This makes the third portrait of yours that I've faved. I guess I just really like portraits. The strong lighting is nice. It makes me feel as if she's standing near a warm fire on a cold winter's morning. There is one thing that bug me. I'm not sure where the fire is. It seems to be behind her, but her hair would shade part of her cheek I think. So I'm not sure.
Then again, the lighting on my portrait is crap, so I guess I don't have any room to speak on that.

You have a good point with the direction of the light. I was originally aiming for a sort of ambient light, but then the image grew out of bounds. A clear effect of not planning the image properly, but just letting it grow from a doodle. Her cheek does have some yellow highlights, but they are certainly subtle compared to the golden glow that seem to hit her from the side. So I agree with your comment, things like this becomes clearer to me now after having let the image rest for a year. At this point I'll probably not go back to this image, but inconsistent lighting is certainly something to keep an eye out for.

Ha ha, I recognized who it was from the thumbnail, she really has her own look that is recognizable through the different styles. I love this image btw, it looks so...clean for lack of a better word. I really like how you did the hair this time, very nice looking. And her clothing, all of it, is fabulous.

I learn Mypaint and use insead of pen and paper.
This version looks more better than the older.

A big improvement over the other art based on this character. Loving the grunge/splatter background, the jacket pattern looks cool and the light is great. I've also got to agree with Parady, Good job.

Thanks for the comment and fave! The older artwork for her was made in considerably different styles as well, so I don't think they are really comparable in the sense of quality, but glad you appreciate this one.

Den ser grym ut, keep up the good work.
Några detaljer bara: Delar av ansiktet känns lite sneda, tror det är skuggan på hakan som gör det, och på vissa ställen skulle nog lite utjämning av penseldragen få den att se mer "komplett" ut.
Men, som sagt, det ser riktigt bra ut!

Jag gjorde end del småförändringar på ögonen, så du kan ha rätt att skuggan skevar till det hela lite. Jag gjorde skuggan mindre slående nu,förhoppningsvis bättre.

Sheesh, I am just surrounded by great artists. It'd be depressing if I cared that much. I continue to love your style which to me always looks realistic in the most stylized way possible.
My favorite parts of this are the hair and the jacket. The hair is just perfect and I always attempt to draw hair with in such a way, failing as much as possible. The jacket just blows me away however, the texture is just great.
The only thing that I can say bothers me about it is the placement of the eyes. I don't know if it's the angle or just the way the shading is done but it seems like her eyes are at noticeably different distances from the bridge of her nose. Gives her a really alien which judging from your past images of her isn't the effect you were looking for.
Still love it though. ^_^

After looking at this a long time (it's easy to go blind to your own work after a while), I think you were right about the eye. So I've adjusted both eyes a bit (you cannot change one without also adjusting the other). But I must admit I have a hard time seeing the flaw also before, I had to draw control lines to notice. Take a look now, hopefully it's better. Thanks again.

Well that adjustment was successful, it doesn't pop out to me anymore which for me is the same as there not being a problem. You're welcome for the fave, you really do deserve as many of them as you can get.
