Description A landscape image done for a birthday card. In the distance are two characters of mine.

First inspiration for the light structure is from romantic 19th century paintings by John Atkinson Grimshaw; but I moved more and more towards my own style as I worked on it.

Krita + Gimp, some five hours.

this is a great piece. Β i feel the morning or sunset aspect in the light scheme. Β the palette is great and i love the way it recedes, way, way back in to the far away.

I really love the light you created here. The golden autumn glow. Also I love the greens and orange shades. They fit together perfectly. And those two distant characters, big and small, very cute!

It's great that people do notice the characters, they blend quite a bit into the background after all. I'm glad you like the light in this one, thanks a lot for the nice comment!

That's a great title because it is indeed yellow, and warm, and soft and welcoming. Funny how a bunch of leafless trees can look welcoming just by using the right colors. It may look dead and silent, but it's not scary.

I did play around quite a bit with the colours of this; the inspiration is from early 19th century landscape paintings. I'm glad to hear the effect is not scary (besides, in the distance you might hint some familiar figures).

I recently read that there was a big volcanic eruption (The Tambora eruption in Indonesia) that literally made the sunsets of the world spectactularly yellow/red for years due to atmospheric pollution. This is visible in a lot of art from that time as it turns out.

Where ever this is, I wanna go there. Great job Griatch, this is beautiful. The composition, value, experience--its all there.

Glad you like it! I was aiming more for the mood than for realism here, seems to have worked. Thanks for the comment!

Nice! I wonder what the place would look like at a different time of the year

Tested Verve, it's indeed really fun! I'm not a Windows user, but I'll toy around with it a bit I think. Thanks for the pointer!

Beautifull light , I like the subtle value change when the ray of light affect the air between the trees.
Good work on the values

Spent some time on the values here so I'm glad you like it! I originally tried to make the upper parts of the trees denser together but found this to give the scene a more "closed-in" feel. The light and atmospherics helped to ease the mood further I think.
