Description

(Alt) Sailor Dress No. 6 Working Dress (1941)

Alternate History – United Australian State Maritime Service, Sailor Corps No. 6 (1941)

Presented here is the United Australian State Maritime Service (UASMS) Sailor Corps No. 6 Working Dress as worn in 1941. The Sailor Corps works alongside the UASMS' Infantry and Aviation Corps.

The UASMS is the premier maritime in service and takes the role in the United Australian State Military Forces that the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) of old filled in the Australian Defence Force. Australia has always been a naval orientated nation even going back into the colonial period where the majority of the colonies had their own standing navies. This is reflected in the Federation of Australia in 1901 where a full-time naval service was founded immediately. During the Australian Civil War (1922-1928) the RAN came under the direct control of the Republic. This caused nationalist forces to form their own maritime militias who were often made up from amateur sailors or complete newbie recruits under German advisor direction. Following the restructuring of the military forces in 1930, this new heritage was reflected in the very un-navy-like structure and appearance of the UASMS. They still retain naval tradition but forge away from their Britain-clone look.
