Hey everyone! Just finished up this image with my new Cintiq 12wx and I can say it was a very pleasant experience using it to create this image! You can read my impressions/review here: [link]After watching the Hatsune Miku Day concert performance video I got the idea to go do a Miku related image. I still wanted to do a spring themed piece before that, but to kill two birds with one stone I decided to incorporate Miku into a spring theme I originally had and this is the result.
The perspective is probably off, but I was able to experiment more with backgrounds thanks to this.

I think one of my favourite aspects of this picture is how you blurred the flowers in the foreground; it gives really good depth in my opinion.

I adore how you've portrayed Miku here, you've made her look so happy and summery, and I love the incoporation of the tiny details such as her nail polish. One little bit of crit I will give, however, is I think her hand ought to be slightly larger given the perspective. The floor looks great and the flowers are wonderful - though I think that you could blur the background from Miku's neck upwards, slightly blurred at the 'front' and moreso toward the 'back', and this will help draw attention to the character since it can be assumed that, while you were practising backgrounds here, she is supposed to be the focal point of the image. Very well done!

Thanks for taking the time to do a little critique - I don't think I see this enough.
A lot of what you mentioned were things I wondered about when I was making this. I think I readjusted that hand like 20 times based on what it would look like versus how it actually looks via a mirror and myself doing that same pose.
I was wondering about the field of depth with the background too but I'll have to try what you suggested and see how it goes.

i love how there s a depth of field with the flowers being abit blurred in the fore ground, it gives a very realistic finishing touch...overall i really enjoyed this one, and sakura flowers are my faveee ^.^ *faves*

Thanks! I had to make a custom brush just to do all those sakura flowers but I think the results paid off in the end.

I LOVE the blur on the flowers, it gives the drawing so much depth. The perspective looks great to me! Her right hand seems a little off, but foreshortening does that sometimes. I love the design of the pavement.

Thanks! I just knew I had to use that depth of field effect for this image. I'm still not sure about her hand too, but I'll let it go for now as this was more experimental for me. Definitely need more perspective work!

I like this grown-up-looking version of Hatsune Miku. Good job! And the pink and green/blue/teal go very well together. Personally, I'd enjoy seeing a little bit more of her legs covered, but I'm just a bit too modest.

Thanks for you comments! It did cross my mind to give her a full kimono, but I wanted to try to keep her clothes looking similar to her trademark look. I didn't expect her to look older but I guess I tend to draw them older ^_^;

i actually got a cintiq12wx for christmas last year and i adore it... it it's so intuitive

and sometimes the feeling of it being right is more important then anything else.
i have been drawing a little more on the comp, i still love the feel of paper under my hand as i draw though... and i've been experimenting a lot... i also find it so much faster to do everything... which can make it more enjoyable.
i still have my old tablet for use with a laptop but i know going back to it in September will be one hell of a learning curve...
if only it wasn't so heavy...

Point taken - I remember being told that or having read that somewhere. Sometimes you just go with what feels right.
I still use pencil and paper myself to start an image. Nothing could ever replace the feel of how a pencil moves over paper, but it is really nice to be able to get inking and coloring done faster on the Cintiq! I guess you could always ship you Cintiq if you wanted to keep using it.

i'd have to take it on the bus every day (since my college is one bus from home) and it would just be really heavy...
but i'll still probably do it... cause i love it... it's just so fast...

Hey, as long as you can transport it safely, I'd take it! The work you could get done versus the time you'd use to readjust to your old tablet should be worth it. Nothing sucks more than to be held back on something you know you could do faster and better with the right tool.
