Only one step? I think they'd take that as a challenge.

My favorite Magnificent Bastard and probably Teridax from Bionicle (Primarily the Books and Comics, not the movies, the movies were heavily simplified. The books and comics got pretty dark and mature)

When I made this poster I hadn't watched/read JoJo yet.
But yeah, he's the most magnificent of magnificent bastards.

Which one is the best Magnificent Bastard? Β Personally, I think it was Lelouch since he actually managed to accomplish his goal in the end.

Out of the ones in this pic I like Lelouch the most as well. Close second is Izaya.

I swear, you can shoot him point blank in the face and he'd still manage to dodge it, then give some overly convoluted explanation for why you missed and why you suck.

You might wanna update your list, dude. Azula WAS magnificent, but ended up being an epic failure. It started with the ''Boiling Rock part 2'' when Mai and Ty Lee betrayed her. It expanded in the ''Sozin's Comet part 1: Phoenix King'' and ''Sozin's Comet part 3: Into the Inferno''. And it ended with her being pathetic in ''Sozin's Comet part 4: Avatar Aang''. I hope you've watched the series' finale, if not here's a little spoiler:
This is her final scene in the series. If that is magnificent bastardry, then I am Beerus, the God of destroying entire GALAXIES. -_- Besides, Nickelodeon's ''Avatar'' ended a long time ago(8 or so years), and all of Azula's accomplishments are now rendered zilch.

Aizen stared out his this but sliped into Smug Snake territory. Half the Death Note fandom sees Light Yagami as a Magnificent Bastard. The other half sees him as just a high-functioning Smug Snake, Light is very bright, but his A God Am I complex, childish Freak Outs ("he got me!"), borderline sociopathy and tendency towards kicking dogs, can and do cost him the sympathy of many, while his sheer ego, and tendency towards underestimating his opponents (and the incompetence of his own allies) can sometimes derail his plans and ultimately do get him killed. Light is incredibly smart, but his arrogance gets in the way of him giving some of his opponents as much credit as he should. Lelouch Lamperouge/vi Britannia of Code Geass: There are many, many fans of this show who will hold Lelouch up as the ultimate example of what the heroic version of this should look like. To a degree, theyβre right. Lelouch is doubtlessly intended to be the heroic version of this, and outsmarts most of the cast with commendable brilliance. Unfortunately, he also demonstrates many of the problems with making this guy the hero. His relentless dog-kicking, temporary freak outs and Heroic BSODs, combined with his childish personality can, and do, cost him a lot of audience sympathy, with some regarding him as just a Jerkass Anti-Hero. His ability to hypnotize people, and the fact that they turned his Large Ham tendencies up to eleven in a serious show does not help.

My point was you should use better examples of the term/trope. But to be far Aizen stared out as one (and would have been one of the greats if not for his ridiculously extreme God complex. Even the Bleach will says that Aizen's power of allusions and his ability to know exactly what is going to happened no matter how unlikely was take to such a ridiculous level. Then again David Xanatos will say that its all part of the plan and he is probably the most popular character in the show.) And to be far a lot of anime villain end up be a Smung Snake.

Isn't more just like an asshole? Β I mean, he planned to destroy the world after the one girl he liked was killed by his best friend. Β If he wanted to see her again he could have just committed suicide. Β The rest of the world already thought he was dead anyway.

I get the distinct feeling that Shikamaru should be classified as a Magnificent Bastard because like Lelouch he is a chess-master type character with Shogi and he is a tactical genius and he knows what to say most of the time and hardly loses his cool.

TDManiacXC626 In reply to grimmjack [2013-03-20 19:19:32 +0000 UTC]
Alright okay. However, I forgot to mention, Shikamaru is also a Trickster and a Master Manipulator, in battle, but he'd never use those traits for his own personal gain like Tom Sawyer did when painting the fence. And he doesn't have any major goals he so tenaciously wishes to accomplish, yet the only one he has on his mind right now is protecting Kurenai and the child of Asuma that develops within her as we speak. He takes this personal mission slow and easy, however, should an enemy threaten both mother and unborn child, Shikamaru is downright merciless towards said opponent, like the centipede the Animal Path of Pain summoned during the Invasion of Pain arc. So yes, he does have the best traits found in a Magnificent Bastard, but he's not an anti-hero or evil. Speaking of Chess-master type characters, I wonder if Shikamaru can best Lelouch in a game of chess since they're both so damn good at the game (Shogi is the same conceptual version of chess in Japan, or at least the Naruto universe).
But since we're talking about Magnificent Bastards, I have a few to mention that would be worthy on your deviation. Slade from Teen Titans, always came up with back-up plans for Robin, Terra and the demonic guard in the series. Albert Wesker, haven't seen much Resident Evil cutscenes but he's definitely worthy of that title. And my personal favorite who I personally put under the Magnificent Bastards category on the Villains Wiki is Nagato/Pain. After watching the uncut English dubbed episodes of the Invasion of Pain that are released thus far, Pain knew exactly what to do and say, rarely lost his cool, quick with back-up plans and during the climax of the fight with the Tendo Path, Pain had determination that one can't help but admire! So, there you have it.
