i love all the unexpected yet somehow fitting details in this. especially the cutlery! it reminds me of the suffering of my partner who has insomnia.

*smiles* thank you so much. I surprised myself with the cutlery - it just appeared, really...
I used to have a great deal of trouble with sleeping when I was younger, but by age 21 it seemed to have more-or-lees normalized, of which I couldn't be gladder. So much time for incoherent thought and dwelling and mulling over, and such reduced productivity during the day...
Thanks again for your comment.

*grins* cheers. this one took forever to finish - but I'd like to do more things in a similar style sometime.

You achieve a look and style that I never could. I'm ok with this... Just wanted to let you know (in case you didn't already know) that you have something very special going on with your arts.

no prob. Scribbles are often more beautiful than rigid looking photographic drawings.

agreed - even with some of my well-loved, more well known artists, it's their sketches i prefer....

A very interesting work of art, the mood in the picture really makes you want to look at it longer.
Well done!

I'm glad you like it. I was hoping that the eye would be drawn around the picture by the elongated lines that melt into each other instead of stopping.
any details in particular catch your eye?

I like the expression on her face and the concept in this painting.

at first glance it seems like a combination between Bruce Bickfords work in Frank Zappas 'baby snakes' doco and a kind of William Blake feel.

*smiles a little* Kitchens and birds and the blessed sleep hiding somewhere in the dresser...
Summer always has that for me. Don't want to be eaten alive outside but getting put in the room where the sun shines first and longest in the house doesn't help the thoughts. At least nowadays I'm ridiculously more cheerful. But I digress.... silly smiles...
I've looked at this a few times now and it's oddly... soothing... largely in how it reminds me of that strangely familiar part of the soul where the blood seeps out from the cracks. Visceral... ah, I'm not making much sense, but I do very much like this.
Visceral is exactly the word for it.

I like this one very much. The small size of the original makes it even more impressive. Even if you tweaked it a bit, I'm amazed you can work so precisely in watercolour.
The more muted tones on the central figure make the surrounding imagery seem more vivid. Nothing seems random or misplaced either - a lot of thought must have gone into this.
Looking at this picture, and reading what inspired it, makes me all too aware of my shortcomings in honesty as well as technique.
This is art in the best sense of the word. I hope there's a lot more to come.

yeah, by virtue of having birds in it.
i thought this picture needed a bird, actually...somewhere in the right corner, but when i sketche dit in, it didn't look right next to all the cutlery.
believe it or not, all the bits in it do have significance and symbolism, it wasn't just "how do i complete the border..oh, i know! I'll put some brests in!"...it wasn't all concious, but still.
the picture isn't that amazing in person - the paper on the face is rumpled with all the times i re-painted it, and the whole thing is barely bigger than my palm and the colours had to be tweaked with the aid of the program my scanner comes with...but you can still meet it. you can even have coffee with her, although she might need to wear clothes for that, and i can't promise the cloud of visions will want to follow her out of the house.
i rant...

Ica, you ok? You don't sound your usual logical self.
I'd ring, but my phone died in New Zealand so I don't have your number.
Breath, relax, and smile.

*chortles* my logical self was in the kitchen, trying not to burn my late breakfast, so my rambling tool of a girl self was allowed to run unchecked at the computer. will email you my number soon.
