Some of us are born driven. We can't help but give chase to some goal, some ideal, some mad dream...And be changed by the process, grow slowly to embody it.This one didn't quite have the strength. Only got half way. Stuck between worlds, neither human nor bird, ideal nor real - changed, but only made uglier, not belonging to either. Scarred, flightless, tired.
..maybe the dream wasn't so good from up-close, but it's too late to turn back...
Can you comfort someone like that? Is to give one refuge - to slow its progress? Can you mend them?
*shrugs* a few things were on my mind at the time, quite a few. Acceptance, mending, defiant hope, fear... I wanted to get across that desire to share warmth, to make hope contagious...At least to lend strength.
The girl wasn't meant to look like me...I've been both those people, to some extent.
I hope the symbolism of the bird-like features is self-explanatory.
"Ne Pleure pas" means "don't you cry" in French. I usually can't stand the French language, but there's a song that sounds a bit like a lulluby called that, which i've grown oddly fond of. I can imagine her humming it...

I really like that bird guy, and the effect of the water, and the grayness of the paper. The way the lines work reminds me of my own style.

That's an absolutely amazing piece of artwork! And I love what you've written about it. Did this dreamer fail to get airborne then? You should! It could be interesting. Some of the tengu look like goblins, but traditionally they look half bird, half man.

I love the title and the idea behind this. I can't say anything smart about it, because you said it all. I can only say I do relate to it. A lot. Even dreams can drain and break us sometimes. And, when we fall somewhere on our way to them, sometimes the only person who can comfort us is ourselves... even if it be different parts of our soul.
A truly haunting image. i guess the closest thing I've drawn (in meaning) to this is "Everyone But You"... though, of course, I shouldn't be comparing...

*smiles* I seldom have a finished product in mind - i just paint automatically, so I can never be sure what media i'll use...the original concept sketch was far smaller and quite different, and this piece went through a few incranations before finally being inked. I think i may have originally intended to do this as a full colour watercolour image... Can't even picture that now...
