Mew: *covers her mouth* "Shhh... Just follow me."

Fern: "Look, I read enough fairy tales to know this is the part where 'the hero' follows their destiny, but I got dinner to make okay?"

Mew: *sighs* "So we're doing this?" *grabs Fern's bag with Psychic and flies off*

Fern: "Hey!" *gives chase* "GIVE THAT BACK!!"

Before Toffee and Fern became the duo we know them to be, Fern lived in the human world with her little brother and mother.

Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen events her father died when he was unexpectedly hit by a car, leaving Fern's mother to work a vigorous job that paid good but gave her little to no time to spend with her little ones. With no other family in the Hoenn region, Fern was left alone with her baby brother and took care of him the best she could while her mother was away, while maintaining her studies to become a trainer.

Before her 10th birthday, a Mew (Toffee's past self) appeared before her begging her to follow them, however Fern knew she was too busy to even think about following a Mythical Pokemon, but of course Mew was persistent to get Fern to follow them, so using Psychic they took her bag. Leading to a chase and finally getting Fern right where they wanted them.
