This year I have painted a lot of subjects that I have never painted before. I have also been more willing to try new things. This painting is definitely more contemporary than my usual work. I usually paint very traditional.
I love bison, so I went to an area where there are a lot of them, and I was worried I wouldn't get close up pictures. Then this guy crossed the road right in front of me!
The whole painting was divided up into 3/4" blocks, then painted with 1 base color. From there, I added thumb and fingerprints of different colors to create the image. I really struggled with the technique in the beginning, and almost gave up, but I am glad I stuck to it, because I love the way it turned out!
I may paint another bison next year, but do it traditional. I have a bunch of great reference photos now.
