Another of my major art projects from this semester. I will say, it was really nice to be able to return to an old concept and actually finish it out for once in my life. Only have minor regrets with this one. It would probably have benefited from some sort of depth of field effect to focus things in? (Though I doubt I'd have been able to pull it off if I'd tried so~ ).

And while not an actual regret, because I did it for a reason and I think the image is better for it, there was also the decision to, um. Mix... almost all of the purple. The only purple pastel that I used was for the stems of the flowers; everything else was magenta blended with blue.

Which basically means that I drew all of those fronds three times over; blue, 'red', blend + some lighter pink. And then working blue into all of the gaps and lower sections to shade.

So. Many. Squiggles.

But, yeah. Host astronaut--or maybe diver? I've been rethinking the scene a bit--with some ominous space/deep-sea plant. Flower shapes are based off of wax plant blossoms , which--yes those are real. We have a wax plant ourselves and it's done its best to scent the entire house for the past couple of summers.
