Description blargh blargh confusing DA categorization system ><

Oh gasp it's a non-fanart submission-- look outside the sky must be falling! x.x

Anyway, this was a fun piece. I originally sculpted it so that it would adorn the rearview mirror of my car, but once I stuck it there it looked really awkward, so I guess I'll just hang it somewhere in the house. xP

I used those cosmetic sponges to make a gradient of brown to a slight goldish tint on the sides and it was pretty fun to paint the markings. Tried to base it off my BP Sarin but gave up after like, 10 seconds. I wanted slit pupil eyes but I kind of regret using these ones, they're too light and from what I know most normal colored BP eyes are close to black. But oh well, I can't change it now. xP Maybe I'll make another one some day.

Sculpture is six inches long and I think the actual roll of clay is about 1 foot long. Scales were individually 'stamped' using a cut drinking straw. Taxidermy glass eyes were added and then the sculpt was painted with cheapo acrylics and sprayed with polyethylene.

Love this. Would you ever consider making one for me as a commission? How much would you charge?

I want one for my rear-view mirror, or just a decoration somewhere.

Oh, thanks for the interest! But I'm sad to say I'm not taking any commissions of the sort as of now... my motivation to draw and sculpt has been haywire to completely nonexistent for some time and I don't think I'd be able to hold up my end of the transaction within any reasonable amount of time. I think it took me practically a year to complete the last commission I'd received, and I felt so bad about it I haven't tried again since. Dx My apologies!

I ♥ Snakes! at first i thought it was real from thumbnail file Kudoz Its Beautiful! if the eye color was a little more hazel than red it would of been like totoaly real!

Great job on the Ball Python. The only way I could tell it wasn't real was its eye color ( and reading the descriprion . But this is coming from a guy who works in a pet store, and with the reptiles themselves. How, if I may ask, did you decide on the pose? And is it solid clay, or is there a sort or armature in it?

gryphonworks In reply to Hexvas [2008-12-27 07:00:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I pretty much made up the pose. I wanted it to somewhat resemble a position you might actually see a BP in, but had to work around the constraints of how it'd hook over my mirror. And there's some thick wire and a bit of aluminum foil bulking in there so I could save a bit of clay.

Hah, just as I read that first sentence of your description, it began to rain. That's awesome.

Actually, this little guy is really awesome too. Had you not put "sculpture" in the title, I wouldn't have known he wasn't real! How cool! I really like the contours of his body, and how you sculpted him so he could hook around stuff. He would look cool hanging from a book case or something

doryphish333 In reply to DEMONxxCHILD [2011-01-21 13:21:50 +0000 UTC]

Actually, you shouldn't feed them something bigger than the size of their head. They can choke on it. I have a pet snake and used to work at a pet store. A lot of people that own snakes also have the misconception that you should see the out line of what they ate. You really shouldn't. If you can see the outline of it it means that your snake might not digest it fast enough and it could rot inside of them and then kill them.

doryphish333 In reply to DEMONxxCHILD [2011-01-22 02:58:58 +0000 UTC]

what kind of snake is it? Corn snakes never really get above small fuzzies as adults and eat pinkies as youngins. Ball pythons should never get above small mice and occasionally medium mice. It shouldn't be any larger than the widest point of their body. I have an anery corn and can eat small fuzzies but larger fuzzies stick out on his belly so I usually stick with pinkies. Some can eat larger mice but you really don't want to overfeed them. Just measure the widest part on his body
