Humans used to get along with us. The smaller race.

Giving us food, shelter, anything we needed to survive. It was amazing as we all coexisted. That was, until a new leader came and took over. It started out fine but he began to tell the humans that we were bad. Not to be trusted.

Pests.

And if we were to be found. We were to be caught and given to the 'Caretakers'. A position that was given out by the new leader. Most of the people didn't believe this madman in the beginning. But he gave out more convincing reasons as to why we should be caught and brought to him.

That's why we went into hiding. The humans of 1826 were paranoid people. The people of Sidra then slowly began to believe that we were bad. That we could do bad things, that we had powers. Which is ridiculous of course. We don't have powers. If we ever had magic, it faded from our people long ago.

The only safe place for us now is underground in hidden a society we had built up from years of hiding. We have tiny passageways hidden throughout the city. The tallest of our kind never exceeds four inches. There are a good forty or so of us all living in our little, hidden community.

But there are always the times we run out of food or fabric, meaning we have to go above ground for it. And the safest time to go is night. That's when we can sneak around and stay unseen. But, we never go into a home. We always search the trash cans and around the alleys and such. The only problem that we have with going out at night is that the humans have realized we do, so now they have the Caretakers not only search the streets at day, but at night as well.

Making life incredibly hard on us.

Every time we even see the headlights of their old truck, we scatter and hide except for the odd few that manage to get swept up in those great nets. And for the ones who are caught, well, they're never seen again. Leaving us mourning for our losses, but forcing ourselves to move on with it. We can't linger on the pain or else, it'll distract us.

I know, it sounds heartless, but trust me, we have to. If we didn't, we'd all be gone. Taken in those huge nets.

We all head out at night, save the children and elders. After you reach the age of ten, you can leave and scavenge what you can. We're taught in small little school-like sessions that leaving the passageways is bad until we're of age, that's when it becomes acceptable. Only at night of course, but I've already explained this to you.

Yes you, the one reading about me and my life. Of course, I can't see you and therefore, I don't know you. But, I do know that I can trust you with my story. Sorry, it seems I've forgotten to introduce myself.
