Description This is a current result after a month's level polishing.
A lot of areas have the final details we wanted and the colors and shadows are just about right.
The bottom picture is a design for the in-game interface.
In most of time the bars won't show up unless they are active.
And I have something to say about the color element bar.
In DBC, we don't directly give the players an ability or magic power, instead, player will find color elements in different areas of a level, color element is kind of "battery" we use on Amy's magic ring(you'll find this equipment in the beginning of the game), with the magic ring, Amy can cast different kind of magic with different combinetion of color elements. player will get different kind of magic powers by mixing with different color elements. There are 2 color element slot at the bottom right of the interface.

The picture on top was shot yesterday when I hooked up my xbox 360 on the 50 inch TV, only wanna see how it looks like up there and it's a total "YY (意淫" if you know what I mean in chinese.

I really hope to see that result someday.

I've been watching the progress for almost two years of this game now and I love how it's grown and how good it looks and the way you've progressed with it all. When it comes out I'm going to make sure I buy it, I'm sure it'll be a really incredible game.

Hi there. Sorry I have to apologize that I'm overloaded with all kinds of tasks so I can't explain everything about my experience of making this game. I didn't spend one cent on this project yet since it's a modification based on another game, but once we have some funding and more talented people we'll begin a true development for the market needs. Even though I haven't make any real success yet, but I think there is a way to begin with. The key is that you have to have your own ability or idea that would attract people and make them wondering, there they would like to help you bring your dream to life. Believe me, the beginning is the hardest part but once you get over it, you might find the twilight. Good luck if you want to begin a game project!

It's really hard to say since it always depends on what kind of game you're making and what direction you wanna go... I can't answer this question if lacking other details. There are plenty of technique issues when you're planning to make a game, so think about it carefully and prepare well, or at least do some research and learn a bit of everything, this would be most helpful.

I am trying to make a first person shooter similar to Halo 2 and Call of Duty 4. The story is about a world war between rebels (good guys) and the Government (bad guys...the soldiers have no clue why they are fighting) I hope that was enougth... i am still trying to deside wat engine im going to use.

Basically if you're making a next-gen looking game, you should have a game engine, a 3dsmax, a Zbrush for detail modelling, and photoshop for texture making. You can install other plug-ins to increase your efficiency as well.

More about my own experience: Devil behind the Canvas is a project in my mind for a long time. Even 3~4 years ago. I was studying fine art during that time. I pratise my major skills real hard and one day when I was drawing a little girl, I can see there a whole story behind this painting. So I started drawing more and more and thinking how am I gonna tell this story. Also I studied game engine and level design for about 2 years. I was a community mapper and I released several works to let the community know that I have knowledge about game design. Once I get most of the knowledge figured out(this took me about 3 years or even longer), I put my ideas and paintings together, and bring it to others. People accepted my idea and I started to get more and more attention. Finally the project got featured on CGchannel, and that was the time people came talk with me most often. Then I collected the right people and formed up a small team till now. without them I wouldn't got these much done by now.
I hope my story can help

so far so brilliant. well done. colour pallete and level of detail look great. the interface looks a little cluttered with everything on there at once, but if i read you correctly, this will not be the case in play.

Thank you.
yes the texts and bars are only sketches for now, it's just to show the design. We are still working on it. Once we make a final decision we'll finish it

Thank you Canada Guy. That is a serious issue if the game is made commercial. I hate gameplay patents, they are ridiculous. It's like whoever is patenting is saying they created everything up until that point, which is impossible. They used everyone else's technology to get to that point. What if first person shooters had been patented or all of the other game types? It would be impossible to create most games.

Haha I Just found an article about nintendo being sued about the wii again. Excellent, a taste of their own medicine:

Yes I know Eternal Darkness but I didn't know the ridiculous patenting. When was that game created? I know another first person game called "Call of Cthulhu", it has a sanity simulating system. If the patent takes effect, it should not be made that way.
I don't much about the annoying patent stuff, think we should get them figured out clearly before we make our final decision to our game.

That's good that you found another game with a sanity system. Let me know if you find any others, it is interesting and good news if other people are doing it and not being sued. It doesn't look like Call of Cthutlhu was sued. Patents on game design and code is really controversial and from what I have seen most people hate it.

Sanity Meter? Have you herd of a game called Eternal Darkness? It was developed by Nintendo for the GameCube, great game, but the interesting thing is that during its development Nintendo actually put a patent on video game insanity. You might want to check it out. (US Patent 6935954 - Sanity system for video game)

Anyways from everything I've seen so far it looks like this games going to be really awesome!

Eternal Darkness was released in 2002 developed by Silicon Knights, but if I remember correctly it was originally in development for the N64, which would be going back a few years.
