Your edit is a little better.
Although the effects in the film are good i don't think there great.
The skull in the film was very "3d" and didn't really look real at all.

Not that much of a difference between the pics but I admit your edited picture does look a bit more demonic...

I do believe I read somewhere that it was, in fact, Nic Cage's skull used to make the ghost skull.

I Like you version of the ghost rider skull, i think the reason why the original skull is no so scary its because the idea is to do a real human skull, the human skull donΒ΄t have the "eyes" like that, but aii its a movie, a really cool movie lol

The more I look at the original skull the more I see Cage's face in it. Freaky, that might actually be modelled off of him. Maybe they should have cast someone else .. *cough*
Definitely not intimidating in the original, you have an amazing eye for adjustment.

yeah you definitely put some menace in the eyes. graphics for this movie look fake to me, i figure it'll suck, i'm suprised people are still giving the director work after dd flopped (even though it wasn't bad)
the worst thing is - how long ago did pirates come out and do skulls perfectly? if they left a lil fleah on and did some burning eyeballs so it could emote...

Looks like you tilted his head, but it made all the difference. Once again movies should reach out to fans for ideals.

I can understand everyone's feelings about the skull. Hell, when I draw the Rider (daily) I tend to make his eye sockets look to be full of rage and violence as well. It looks real good on paper. But in the comics, it's easier to make a skull seem more pliable than it is (or isn't, rather). On screen it would come off as more than impossible, and no matter how much belief you suspend to get into the film (he is a walking, talking, vengenace distributing leatherclad hellcycle riding flaming skeleton after all) the director and producers felt the pliable skull was going overboard.
But the film will not be lost to all emotions as it is. The fire will now express the Rider's emotions, rather than his brow/eye sockets. Sadness = blue flames (actually looks much better now that post is more complete), anger = white hot flames, etc. It should come off fine on the film.
The skull is Cage's. And no, it's not a mask, but CGed on. The skull, when you look at the newest trailer, is smaller than what his head would be since the skin/muscle/fat/blood has all burned away in the transfermation (which looks violent and painful). Again, in the comics drawing the skull too small would very off and unbalance the character. The film is going to make this as realistic as possible, so the skull itself will be to scale to Nick's head.
And for those who are disappointed with Nick being on the film, know that he's been tied to the film since 1999, and is a considerably rabid fan of the character, even having the Rider as a tattoo. He is very dedicated to the role, and even though a touch older than what Blaze should be, he's said to have done the role justice. I'll save my opinion for opening day, but I won't put it past him to put on a good performance.
That's what's up with the film. Bit of a fanatic (my DA page is proof).

Your Ghost Rider looks far better, but then, Few people REALLY know what Ghost Rider is, or who he serves. It AIN'T the evil one.
Adonai Yeshua enjoys the irony ya know!

No, I didn't want the skull to be pliable or malleable or able to smile and frown. I wouldn't want that skull to be Skeletor from the old movie, that would be weird. I think nobody wants that to happen. I just found the skull not that intimidating.
That's good that they reduced the size because it really looked like a prosthetic mask to me

I can't believe that a very small modification can make such big difference!!
I used to think the same, that this skull was kind of a "good boy's face", it should be your way...

Ghost Rider is fantastic and your change looks good. As with any of my comic book movies that I love nothing is ever perfect so I never go into them expecting the best, just something really good. So far things look really good, so I hope it stays that way or gets better. Well done.

I have to say I like your skull much better. the skull they are using looks almost like the chin is attached to the neck. While the smaller skull you are using really reflects the comic more accurately.

I agree with 's remark. Your edit makes it more demonic and cool but the original seems to be likw what you've said maybe a cat scan of Nic Cage's skull. Nick's head is long. Here is a sample pic. [link]
