Going back in time a bit-

"Mercedes!" Leslea recognized the redhead while walking along the street and immediately called out to her. "When did you get back?"
"Hi, Leslea," Mercedes turned and returned the greeting upon recognizing her. "Just yesterday. Bruiser Hill's been quiet since Maxima disappeared, so Lex and I decided to see what was going on here. Of course Dyne kidnapped her on first sight... A lot of other things have changed around here, though."
"Not as much as you may think. Are you busy right now?"
"Not really. I'm just taking a walk to regain my bearings."
"Have you gotten in touch with Cole?"
"Ah..." Merc's face went a bit red. "N-not yet... I'm pretty sure he's busy right now, so I'll give it a few days..."
"Don't speak nonsense!" Leslea immediately grabbed her hand and began dragging her along. "He'll be even more glad to see you."
"Leslea, wait!" Merc protested, but didn't dare try to actually resist. "I-I'm not ready! What he's forgotten about me?!"
"Him? Hell no!"

A few minutes later, in the workroom at Cole's apartment.
"On your feet, little brother!" Leslea ordered as she barged in without knocking. "I have a surprise for you!"
"Les?!" Cole jumped, "You about gave me a heart attack. I'm working."
"Take a break. This is far too important."
"Something tells me you're not going to take no for an answer," he sighed and locked his laptop before standing up.
"You can come in now," Leslea informed someone outside the door, and that someone was the one woman that Cole had been both dreaming of and dreading seeing again.

"Mercedes!" he greeted as his face turned red. To him, she had only grown even more beautiful in the time she was gone.
"Hi, Cole..." he returned, fidgeting a bit as her own face went red to match his. "I-I'm back."
"It's great to see you," he confessed. "I... really don't know what else to say."
"It's good to see you too," she smiled. "Leslea insisted I come and see you."
"Of course."
"But... I'm glad she did. We have a lot to catch up on."
"It looks like my work here is done," Leslea grinned as she stepped back out, closing the door behind her.

"So... what have you been up to?" Cole managed to ask after trying to think of a conversation topic.
"The same as always: Hanging out with Lex and helping her watch over our hometown, practicing my gymnastics and dancing, and hoping to join a troupe this year. I don't quite trust the announcement I read about in putting together one to perform in Singapore, though... How about you?"
"Nothing new for me, either, really. I've been making headway at work and helped complete some major projects recently. If I get a promotion, I can probably afford to move to a bigger place."
"I hope you get it."
"Thanks. Well... speaking of bigger places, why don't we get out of this stuffy old place and go for a walk?"
"I'd like that," Merc smiled, feeling relieved that he clearly still had feelings for her, too. However, some loud sounds from the other side of the door immediately crashed the mood.
"Oh, for the love of-" Cole facepalmed. "Les! Unbarricade that door! You're creating a fire hazard!"
"Ah..." Mercedes could only sweat a bit as she realized the implications of what Leslea was doing. She knew full well how much she wanted to see her get together with her brother but, sometimes, she tried just a bit too hard and had the subtlety of a brick crashing through a picture window.
