Description "Well, that's that, I guess..." Hiroshi sighed to himself as he finished up his homework since he had nothing better to do after the writing club had disbanded for the day . It would be another two days before the next meeting so he could have to find a way to pass the time until then, even if he remained in the room itself for as long as possible each day until the janitor kicked him out due to the school gates being closed and locked.

"(I should have asked Miss Summers if I could make a copy of what was in her notebook,)" he thought as he recalled what had transpired earlier that afternoon. In the age of modern tablets and computers, all of his seniors in the writing club had chosen to write their stories and poems digitally. To him, as their editor, part of it felt as though the writing didn't have as much soul as something handwritten, so it had been a pleasant surprise for him when both of the new members opted to take that path. He'd also gotten a few death glares from some of the guys in his class when he'd told them that the popular, beautiful new transfer student, Umino Himeko, had joined the club. Her handwriting and tone were as formal as her speech, so he'd had to make note of reminding her to focus on her audience, especially when it came to a children's story, and she gratefully acknowledged that advice without any complaints. He hadn't thought much more of her as a result, especially since it was the other new member who captured his attention both in terms of her personality and style.

"(Sephira Summers,)" he continued to think. "(No doubt a foreign transfer student since she wrote her name in both English and katakana on the club sign-up form.)" In their first meeting, she appeared to struggle for exactly what to write about. As soon as she overcame that mental obstacle, she churned out nearly ten pages within the next couple of hours. He'd looked it over and found every beginner's mistake in the book: changing tenses, lack of setting details, no background details on the two characters: a mother and daughter who were refugees in a dystopian future, and more. When he pointed them out to here and asked her to try again after giving her some materials on how to avoid making those same mistakes, she looked like she'd taken personal offense at his critique. It wasn't the first time he'd seen someone angry, nor would it have been the first time someone would quit the club over a damaged ego, but there was something about both her story and her reaction that had set her apart from everyone else. Her story was clearly fiction, but her word choice and response to the critique really stood out in Hiroshi's mind to make it feel like she was writing from personal experience.

"(And that was just it,)" Hiroshi's thoughts still continued. "(When I saw and spoke with her at the shoe lockers yesterday, I really did want to know how the story progressed. I don't think I'd seen anyone make that kind of shocked face before, especially as I think she was still angry at me.)" And it had been his turn to be shocked when she handed him her notebook earlier that afternoon: Not only had she taken his critique to heart and re-written the original pages a few times over, but she had more than doubled her progress the night before. Both her attitude and the story itself continued to intrigue him as both she and her mother and daughter pair in her story seemed to not know when to quit. That kind of stubbornness was both good and bad in his mind, as everyone had a breaking point when they should have given up a long time ago.

"(Holding out thinking things will get better only makes it all the more devastating when the betrayal inevitably happens.)" As Hiroshi sighed and prepared to get kicked out of the school again that night, making sure to move as slowly as possible in hopes that "that man" would either be passed out or getting even more drunk at one of the local bars and thus not have to see him that night, he found himself surprised by one more thought regarding Sephira while he still had the freedom to do so:

"(I wonder what kind of smile she has...)"
