That's awesome! Great detail, I have no idea what to say. Speechless. xD But, it has that familiar look into it from a scene in the first Alien. xD

Let's see...a huge spaceship with three suited up people who are leaving after exploring it. It's been there awhile 'cause of the grass, or whatever you desire it to be, is growing on it. And it's really windy because of the sand, so the people have to be careful and take their time to see where they are going. That's what I see. Someone may see something else. Ah, the wonders of art. Very well done.

You hit the nail on the head, tsheva. First thing I thought of was when they're on the alien ship at the start.

ImAGirlNamedMichael In reply to wattersk [2010-05-06 21:32:37 +0000 UTC]

This looks just like one of the preproduction concept art pieces Giger did for the original.

i put in a good amount of time last night and didn't find it... but, Giger has so much art out there. i would hope the 'judges' repsonsible for DD's would be careful of such things, but i also know how virtually impossible it would be to catch it before submitting a piece as a DD... tough call.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ImAGirlNamedMichael In reply to KreepingSpawn [2010-05-08 04:45:34 +0000 UTC]

I went through my "Giger's Alien" book, which pretty thoroughly chronicles all of the pre-production archives of the original movie, and I can report that this piece, although similar to several different pieces in the archive, is NOT a rip at all. There are elements from two or three of Giger's ideas, but it IS this artist's own representation. It's similar, but not a copy. Good to know

KreepingSpawn In reply to ImAGirlNamedMichael [2010-05-09 03:31:06 +0000 UTC]

indeed! bravo for putting in the research.
does Giger take apprentices?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ImAGirlNamedMichael In reply to KreepingSpawn [2010-05-09 17:11:54 +0000 UTC]

Not to my knowledge- but then again, he lays fairly low. You can always try and contact him, but I think that if you do some research of his works that have been published in books, you might not need to apprentice under him.

I believe you're thinking of "Stranded", directed by Maria Lidon... But I definitely see the connection. It's got that same feeling of wide-open claustrophobia.
