It was an unusually warm day for the season in Seaclan, the sun beating down on the entire patrol's pelts. Tigershark's and Duskfall's complaints wormed their way into Inkpaw's ear, making his fur bristle. As if their conditions weren't already bad enough, he had to listen to their obnoxious whining. "Hush, you two! All of your yapping is going to make my ears bleed." Morningfrost stated sternly, shooting a glare back at the two toms. Tigershark may be the deputy, but he could still be irritating as the Dark Forest when he wanted to be.

Inkpaw trotted along beside his mentor Ivorysplash and his acquaintance Lilypaw, the hot sand searing his paws with every step. The walk was long and tedious, he wished dearly to be grooming himself in the shade of the Seaclan camp, but he dared not say a word against the situation. As he continued trudging along, he forgot to look up and he bumped into Morningfrost's motionless body. He grumbled and looked up, about to hiss at her to watch where she was going when his muzzle was blocked by her fluffy orange tail. "Something's wrong." She stated plainly, standing still with her ears perked. Inkpaw raised an eyebrow, backing off a tad to give her some space. He sniffed the air curiously and then pricked his ears - she was actually right.. something was different. "Hey.. wha's that.. awful stench?" Tigershark asked, wrinkling his nose.

  "I don't know.. and I'm a bit afraid to find out.." Morningfrost replied, cautiously stepping forward, following her nose. She followed the scent to a patch of tall, swaying reeds, where she found a pile of rotting fish. "Eugh!" Ivorysplash exclaimed when she joined the she-cat, wrinkling her already short muzzle even further. Inkpaw twitched his whiskers, trotting up to join the she-cats - maybe they finally found something interesting? He twitched his ears, seeing the dead prey. "It looks almost like.. an attempt at a fresh-kill pile... but whoever made it didn't hunt it for themselves, they just picked up dead fish from the shore." He remarked, hearing Lilypaw mutter "Gross." under her breath.

Suddenly all of their heads turned as a mysterious rustling was heard nearby, followed by a menacing shriek and yowl. Three cats leaped from the tall grass, their fur bristling and their fangs bared. "Get away from our fresh-kill!" One hissed, the other two going on the other sides of the group, effectively trapping them. Inkpaw was startled and he instinctively unsheathed his claws, hissing back strongly at the attackers. "Fresh-kill?" Tigershark taunted, waving away the stench with his paw, "More like Been-sitting-on-the-beach-for-a-moon-kill!" The rogues growled, lashing their tails. "What are you doing on Seaclan territory?" The deputy asked aggressively, standing tall. "We have every right to tear your fur off and send you running off with your tails between your legs, if that's what ya' want!" The rogue with brown stripes simply bared his fangs and spat, seemingly not having a good response in mind.

  He began to pace back and forth, glaring at Tigershark, a crazed look in his eye. He didn't know what he could do, so he decided on a last resort - he wanted to maintain his dignity. "If you want us to leave, you'll have to do it by carrying our dead bodies out!" He hissed, before leaping toward the deputy.

  Inkpaw's muscles tightened when he saw that and he yowled "NO!", and he hardly remembered what happened in the next moment. By the time he came back to his senses, he was looking down at the face of the brown rogue, his large paw on his chest. The rogue looked shocked, and so did the rest of the patrol - their mouths agape, just staring wide-eyed at the dark apprentice. However, the brown tabby didn't stay stunned for long. He began to yowl and struggle against Inkpaw's grip, eventually making him lose his balance with a strong kick to the belly. The wind was knocked from Inkpaw's lungs and he grimaced, but he soon recovered - with a deep, white-hot fury building up in his chest. He yowled loudly and swung his massive paw into the rouge's face, landing a scratch and visibly making him dizzy. FINALLY! A battle! He subconsciously thought - this was everything he had hoped for. Blood rushed through his veins, his heart pumping wildly with excitement.

In response, the brown tom swiped at Inkpaw's face, making him cry out in pain as the claws caught his eye. The dark tom shook his head to shake it off, sending a few droplets of blood onto the white sand. He closed the eye to prevent blood from getting into it, but it did make visibility a bit more hampered. Maybe it will scar.. Inkpaw pondered hopefully, glaring at the rogue.

The tabby soon recovered from his dizziness and swiped again at the apprentice, making him even more angry and he swiped right back, standing on his hind legs to appear even bigger. He hissed and brought down all his weight on the cat in one huge move, tearing his claws through the cat's face fur as he came back down to his position on all fours. He looked down, seeing fur and crimson blood on his claws for the first time. The rogue seemed to take this hit quite a bit harder, backing up and flattening his ears as he whined in pain. "Go on! Cry!" Inkpaw taunted, a hint of a smirk appearing. The tabby also seemed humiliated, so when Inkpaw teased him he darted forward and lashed at him, only to receive a few more scratches from the apprentice.

After a few more swipes and some aggressive hissing, the rogue finally decided it was time to retreat. Inkpaw had been so caught up in his battle that he hadn't heard the commotion from behind him. He looked over his shoulder and saw the rest of the patrol sparring with the two other rogues, lots of hissing and scratching but no really fatal blows being thrown. However, as Inkpaw was looking away, he didn't see that the brown tabby was trying to slink off into the grass once again. When he turned around to see the striped tail disappearing between the yellow-green stalks, he spat and swiped at his rump saying "Oh no you don't! You're getting off of our land!" The cat hissed once again and began to flee, Inkpaw right at his heels.

The dark apprentice chased the tabby all the way to the Leafclan border, not stopping until he watched his tail disappear into the bushes. "AND STAY OUT!" He shouted, his fur bristling. He panted, adrenaline still pumping through him from the battle and the chase. "Nobody messes with Seaclan.. especially me." He smirked softly to himself.
