Holy crap, I did this one super fast. That never ever happens. I guess it's because I had no ideas for art anyway, I haven't done a digital piece in a couple days, and I LOVE retro stuff, haha!

D'aww, thank you...

Also, I never replied to that other comment on the subject since I'm horrible sort of lazy, but we should totally ride that unicorn in your icon, like... over a rainbow. :U

How do you get the lines so smooth? Is it just a matter of being careful, redoing them when they aren't, or is there another trick? Whatever it is, it looks good as always, the coloured lines are especially nice. The floral pattern is great as well.

This reminds me, did you ever get those cateye glasses you put up the poll about? They sounded neat.

Gwnne In reply to Carnimafex [2010-07-29 18:34:05 +0000 UTC]

I don't even know... I started with a 1000 by 1000 pixel canvas, set the line size to 4 pixels, and put the tablet on like... pressure control. Oh man, that's probably not helpful at all, sorry. D:

But thank you! I'm glad you like this.

Aha, no... My mom talked me out of ordering online, and when I did find some at a vintage store, they were too expensive. But someday....

Also, I didn't forget about our conversation! I just haven't had time to reply yet. I'll do that soon.

Carnimafex In reply to Gwnne [2010-07-29 18:42:42 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, that's what's put me off digital art so much. Even if it's less efficient, I am able to control a pencil or paintbrush whereas the tablet pen goes out of control. It's a shame really, computerized stuff has a sort of smoothness that can't really be replicated on paper or canvas.

Well, that's a shame. I'm sure you'll find a pair eventually; they're worth having in my opinion, so definitely keep looking.

Ahh, it's alright. I kind of feel bad about those to be honest; I reply to every comment with a half-page answer, until it takes forever just to reply to them all. Sorry. :c

Gwnne In reply to Carnimafex [2010-07-29 18:49:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can definetly understand that. I tend not to play around with my tablet options too much, lest I just confuse myself. Pencil is certainly way easier for me, but I just like the polished effect of computer art.

Yeah, I hope so... I've resolved to check out the store at least once a month for a better deal. I did buy a cool 50s necklace though! I love that thing.

No no, I really love them! When I can get time to reply, they're very fun. You don't have to feel bad. c:

Carnimafex In reply to Gwnne [2010-07-29 18:59:26 +0000 UTC]

I can hardly get pressure sensitivity to work on mine, so that doesn't exactly help. I'm certain it's the computer doing it, but I've got no clue how to fix it. Oh well. I've decided to focus on sculpting for a while anyways; I found a brilliant art site, not unlike dA, but so much more helpful for the learning artist.

Ahh, that sounds really cool! All the retro stuff I find in stores is usually really expensive and not at all portable, like radios from the 40s and old grammophones and stuff. Someday, when I have the money, I'll get the finest radio anyone's ever seen. That necklace sounds cool though, what's it look like?

Well, if you say so. I'm always worried of being a burdon or nuisance, so don't hesitate to say so if all these messages start piling up.

Aw, how annoying. Do you just use Photoshop?
You have? What's this site called.. and is it mainly sculpture art there or no?

It's an amazing store over all! It's mostly clothes and jewelry though, but there's all sorts of retro trinkets too. And they wrap every small purchase in old fabric scraps. <3
That stuff is still super cool though! Also, that is a highly worthwhile goal wrote there.
It's sort of...a choker made of light jade-green colored plastic beads in the shape of roses. It's very lightweight; I think the plastic is called lucite, but I'm not sure.

Nahh... I mean, they are time consuming. I don't mind much though. It's just a matter of finding this time, but when I do I love writing replies.

Photoshop is too expensive, oh man. I use GIMP, which is kind of like an open-source Photoshop. I've seen people make some amazing things on it, but it lacks a lot of the basic features that photoshop has, like the line tool. The site is called Conceptart.org, and it's fantastic. It's more forum-based than dA, but there's an incredible amount of information and advice to be found throughout. The community has a lot of professionals, and they're really helpful and friendly. Here's a link, if you care to check it out:[link]

That sounds so cool, oh man! Is it a big store? I know I've been to a few antique stores, and the kind of stuff in them is amazing. Next to the radios, I really wanna buy some of the old posters and ads and stuff. They have these big old Coke ads that are really cool.
Oh, that sounds really nice! Was it expensive? I love finding all those little treasures in obscure stores and shops, it's a lot more rewarding than buying something from a huge company.

Well, as long as you're enjoying them it's all good. I really enjoy talking to you as well, I just worry that I'm boring or talk to much or anything like that. I probably sound paranoid.
