Description Then, as Iroh lunged toward Azula on her mount, Aang understood; he gasped and, rather than keep his gaze locked on the old man, rose in a panic to see Zuko rush at Toph. The world seemed to slow as lightning erupted from Azula’s hand, cutting through the air and rain, and even as Toph was pushed to the ground and Zuko took the blow, redirecting much of it into a nearby tree, Aang did not dare draw in a breath. The technique looked almost flawless--

Almost.

As the residue steam and smoke cleared, however, and the three girls made their retreat Aang felt his heart leap into his throat and freeze as his lover crumpled to the ground in a heap.

“Zuko!” He cried, tearing through the brush, slowed only slightly as the undergrowth caught on his clothes. It was seconds before he reached the clearing, and then his feet were pounding the ground hard enough to leave a fissure in his wake. His eyes stung, perhaps from the rain, or perhaps from the beginnings of tears, and he tripped as all-familiar blue light filled his vision.

‘No!’ Aang shook his head, willing his Avatar’s spirit back with all he had; he needed to see, needed to know that Zuko was okay before he lost control. ‘Not now,’ he thought, swallowing hard, choking back the urge to let it take command, ‘I have to… He has to be okay…!’ The fallen prince was only a few meters away, with Iroh crouching alongside him, and with more strength than he had known he could muster Aang repressed the Avatar spirit.

Completely sapped of his strength, adrenalin spent as quickly as it had come, the boy fell to his knees at Zuko’s side. Breath ragged, he looked to Iroh for only a moment, hoping for some kind of assurance that the older boy would be okay. But nothing in the old man’s face offered any such comfort, and Aang let out something between a sob and his name before clutching Zuko in a desperate hug, face buried against his neck.

Faint though it was, Aang could feel Zuko’s pulse against his cheek; if nothing else, he was alive.

About the piccha~

Once again, from the roleplay with Uncle--this is actually the scene preceeding that Sokka comic that I still haven't colored yet. I wanted to experiment with shading and imitate the lighting in that one scene in the Sailor Moon R movie where Mamoru gets run through by Fiore and the whole thing gets a red wash... Unfortunately, I'm a total loser and can't even do that with a screenshot in front of me . Oh well; Aang looks about the way I wanted him to, and that's what counts. XD

Friggen Avatar State is nigh impossible to color, and I hate it. D: But I will learn, I swear~!

I love your Aang/Zuko pics! They are so well drawn and have the emotion wonderfully conveyed to the veiwers. They make such a great couple!

AHAHAH FIRST COMMENT.

*ahem*

Awesome work on this. The reflection in Aang's eyes in the first panel, and the complete lack of life in Zuko's... wonderful. For some reason, I really like the tilt of Zuko's head - overall the effect of that panel is just EXCELLENT. And despite what you said about coloring the Avatar State, I think you did a great job. :3 The afterglow, combined with the slant of the rain, helps to add a sense of movement. The anatomy is solid throughout, but the angle of Aang's body is especially win-filled.
