My OC, Onyx, was a caretaker gem, his last gem he looked after was a Peridot. He grew attached to the peridot, so much so he requested to White Diamond if he could keep her (much like the diamonds have pearls). Reluctantly, she said yes. But this would be short lived after he joined the Crystal Gems. The peridot was too young to understand, so he asked a Jasper to look after her. She doesn't remember him, but he remembers her. He is extremely protective her, now that Lapis is back, he's extra careful. He hates Lapis,for two reasons.

One: she broke greg's leg.

Two: SHE TRIED TO DROWN CONNIE

Paternal, my Onyx was a caretaker gem, the last Gem he had to take care of was a Peridot, she was....special in his his eyes.
As for Lapis however, He despises her. The reason, she broke Greg's leg, and tried to drown Connie.
Onyx's love interest is actually Garnet. Now I know what you're thinking, Garnet is a relationship, they have a more human relationship, he loves what she represents, and she respects that.
