Thanks!
No, I didn't coach. Well, if you call teaching friends how to do a cartwheel coaching, that I did.
When I was 22-24, I finally was able to take gymnastics lessons. I had lots of fun but I was too "chicken" to do my back tuck on the trampoline by myself. I was also too "chicken" to do back handsprings without the coach spotting me. Funny thing was, when he was spotting me, [he just had to give me a small tap] I was able to do it with good form. When he stood back and let me try it alone, I fell on my face, lol. Go figure! It was a mental thing.

That's awesome! I know what you mean about the mental thing totally. I had a problem with handstands on the wall until I finally kicked up and found that, no my body did not smash against the concrete and go splat! xDDYou could talk yourself into thinking your coach was there? >.>

Well, I can't do anything but I still like the sport very very much. Not only do I still draw gymnasts but I am also a co-moderator on the Yahoo group:

A wonderfull balance in both senses of the word.Even painted jet black without defining details. With the work being done in an abstract miminilist manner, this composition would be of interest.Great composition!!!

Shadows as in muscle tone? I just do it by "mapping out" the areas (see my outline art for examples). I also think of them as areas and shapes, otherwise I'll get overwhelmed. I of course go by the reference picture alot! It's kinda like thinking in a vector-y way.

Oh, Ok. The shadows on the floor in the photo were more complex than the way I rendered them in the drawing.
