with the neoprene (rubber) rings in it, not worth it in a fight. If it was just stainless steel, its very strong, chainmail is supposed to withstand sword slashes.

I agree, but aluminum is very strong... Strong enough that we use it to make airplane frames, so maybe it's tensile strength is enough to stand a sword slash or two.

true, though airplane frames are a bit thicker. If you used thick enough wire it should withstand a slash. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end though until its been tested...
