Personality/Backstory: Dragonfly is the product of the very 'complicated' (to say the least) relationship between Duke Blueblood of Canterlot and Prince Pharynx of the Changelings. They met at a diplomatic meeting, introduced by the Changeling diplomat, Ocellus. There was a sort of inescapable attraction they felt for each other, but both promptly attempted to ignore it.
That was, until Blueblood was sent to the Changeling kingdom by Queen Cadence and Queen Twilight Sparkle. The Duke was sent, among other ponies, in order to show off pony culture to the Changelings in hopes that the two species could gain better understanding of each other. The Queens' motives were purely that, and totally not an effort to teach Blueblood some humility. Pharynx was sent by King Thorax to be Blueblood's personal escort (as Thorax was not oblivious to his brother's feelings about the Duke). After a harrowing journey to the Changeling Kingdom, certain things transpired between Blueblood and Pharynx. It turns out that when Changelings feel intense love with a romantic or sexual partner, they can produce a grub. Blueblood was quite displeased that he had not been informed of this before. Pharynx defended himself by saying that he didn't think it was possible to produce a grub from, and I quote, "angry sex".
So, little Dragonfly was born.
Dragonfly's birth brought Blueblood and Pharynx a little closer. Now they had an adorably terrifying little baby to make silly faces at and talk to in that annoyingly high-pitched voice that everyone uses when talking to an infant- of course when the other was nowhere nearby. Neither of them had ever wanted kids, or been very good with them, but they both maybe sorta got a little attached to Dragonfly.
As a child. Dragonfly traveled back and forth between Equestria and the Changeling kingdom to see both of his dads. Blueblood taught his son how to be a proper young stallion. He took Dragonfly to fancy dinners, classy cocktail hours, and even a few diplomatic meetings. He taught him what to say and when to say it, how to make a proper introduction, and even how to eat soup and noodles without accidentally making disgusting slurping noises. But whenever Dragonfly visited Pharynx, all of Blueblood's efforts were undone. Pharynx taught his son how to have fun. This included mud sliding in a hollowed out log, dive bombing into a lake to create record-breaking splashes, and burning leaves in painstakingly intricate patterns and then laughing maniacally as everything is set ablaze.
Dragonfly was not unaware of the tension between his fathers. They'd be trash talking each other one moment and then reminiscing happily about time spent together the next. They liked each other, they really did, but they also really despised each other all the same. The older Dragonfly got, the more tired he got of their senseless bickering. He's still plotting on how to get them together once and for all.
Dragonfly himself is an emotionally constipated jerk, not unlike his fathers. He's grumpy, growly, and just generally wants to be left alone. But not really. He secretly wants someone to be his friend and love him. But he'd never admit that. He struggles with expressing himself to others so writes secret emo poetry and keeps it stashed under his mattress for whenever he needs it. He complains about how someone needs to knock some sense into his dads, but really, sometimes someone needs to knock some sense into him.
Dragonfly is technically a royal, but he never took a proper title. He hates his full name and demands that he is called Dragonfly by all. His dads are permitted to call him Draco. It's a cute nickname that will never see the light of day, if Dragonfly can help it. His dads can't imagine why he's so embarrassed by it.
Relationships:
Though he'd never actually admit it to them or anyone else, Dragonfly loves his dads. He sees good in them that not many others can find. And he sees things that most don't get the opportunity to see. Like Pharynx cooing over an adorable fluffy bunny. Or Blueblood attempting to conceal his very secret manga collection. We all have things we don't want anypony else to know about, Dragonfly says. If his dads don't spill the beans, he won't either. Even as an adult, Dragonfly makes an effort to spend time with the both of them. They raised him well, he thinks. And even if he is an emotionally constipated jerk, that doesn't mean he should neglect his poor old dads.
Not unlike the complicated relationship between his fathers, Dragonfly and the most wondrous Warrior Princess Flurry Heart have something going on. They snark at each other and pretend to hate each other, but behind closed doors they are something far different from smack-talking rivals. Nopony should ever find out about their secret, angsty, bitterly block-headed romance, ssh. Dragonfly sure hopes he doesn't have the ability to randomly spawn grubs when he feels loved. Now that could get awkward.
Dragonfly, as well as his dads, are unaware that he has a half-sister. Enchanted Gemstone's birth was the result of a one-night-stand between Trixie and Blueblood. Dragonfly did meet her at the Grand Galloping Gala one year, but they remain acquaintances. Trixie hasn't spilled about Gem's dad (Gem thinks he's Sunburst), and she never might.
Dragonfly's best friend is Estella Sparkle, the daughter of Queen Twilight and Quibble Pants. Nopony (not even them) understands why they're friends, but they just get along very well. Estella is the only one who knows about Dragonfly's poetry, and she may or may not be helping him come up with a plot for how to get Blueblood and Pharynx together.
Facts:
- Dragonfly is not unlike an Alicorn in the way that he can fly and perform magic. He's not incredibly talented at either, but definitely isn't terrible. He much prefers to walk to his destinations anyway, thank you very much.

- Dragonfly has Changeling mandibles which means that he can make terrifying claw-looking things come out of his mouth. He enjoys scaring unsuspecting ponies with them. He also has a forked tongue that just so happens to be purple.
- When Dragonfly flies in the light, his wings look all sparkly and shimmery. It's very pretty but don't let him hear you call it that. He tries his best to look menacing and only menacing.
- Dragonfly has a pet fruit bat named Vixie. He loves her to bits and she goes almost everywhere with him.
