Couple things to explain. First off in the UK, rubber means eraser.

I think I was about six when this happened. And I had this odd thing where... For some reason, I used to believe that pictures were alive and had feelings etc. So if one got destroyed I was very very upset. This led to a couple of bizarre little situations that I could have chosen from, but... I chose to go with when I realized that Slinky Dog had faded off my Toy Story rubber in class.

I'll say it again.. I was a weird kid.

Wait... waitwaitwait...

Is it called a rubber because it's made of rubber, or because it rubs away mistakes.

OhGodI'msoconfused.

I have this tendency to name things. Always have since I was kid. Like my little drawing mannequin, his name is Jose, my marine tank is known as Titanic (as I'm waiting for a giant, very expensive disaster one day). I refer to my computer as Compy the 1st, and my now dead laptop was Lappy the 2nd. As for things being alive, I once got full blown crying upset when I broke a toy as a child and rather than say "I broke X toy" I started screaming "X toy is dead"

I'd still cry over something like that nowadays, and I'm 19 .____.
Some childhood beliefs are pretty dang hard to get over :<

I remember something similar happening to me... >.< We used to trade stickers as kids, and I (for some stupid reason) traded a sticker, that I really liked. Well, I asked if we could trade it back, and the girl didn't want to. I can't remember why. Well, I started crying like a small pig and then the teacher came to me and and after I explained the situation, the teacher didn't say much and just walked away. And I used to think that things were alive, too. So it was very horrible.

My point with this long story is that teachers and other people who work with children should realize that these things are much bigger for children, and they should be taken care of. Children don't see the world like adults do : <

Awwww! When you were six, there's nothing wrong with believing in those things; you were six, it's perfectly normal.
As for what your teacher said; even though it was a little silly, she needed to consider that the rubber had sentimental value to one of her students.

All in all, a cute comic.

For some reason this triggered a memory: right before we went to see Toy Story for the first time I was convinced my curtains were people. Not people-people, but curtain people. Apparently kids do that, like assigning genders and personalities to objects and colors and numbers.

Our air conditioner is so female, and her name is Emily. Im always telling my boyfriend to turn her on, up, down off and so on.... It perfectly normal XD Though im sure I knew several people who would disagree with me.

I don't get people who name their ipods/cars/guns, but I can tell you the genders of numbers 1-10.

Just a smidge! It has faded the older I get, but I'm very imaginative and I like identifying with children through writing so I try to hang on to the way I used to think.

Airobeth In reply to yolen [2013-07-11 02:33:15 +0000 UTC]

for us it was more ... well let me put it this way, Its fine to say "Hey honey can you please turn that air conditioner down?" or whatever, sure but it is quicker and easier (because sometimes I just simply derp and forget its called an air conditioner because it doesn't look like one) so its easier to just say "Hey turn Emily off"
