Description EDIT: Fixed the color whoopsie on Megs's helmet paint; blurred the edges of Cy-Kill's owie-splosion, and to a lesser extent, the Sword of Pain. Thanks for your helpful crits.

Finally.
I've been beating my head against this for months. It still doesn't hold a candle to [link] , but it'll have to do!

This is the amazing lineart [link] by the awe-inspiring

I have worshiped it for years; no lie. It's still one of my favorite things on DA, both the lines themselves () and *NorthernBanshee 's colored version. ()

But I've always known that I'd have to color this one day or burst. So I finally got up the guts to ask. Thank you, Saskia!!!!!!!!!

This took me AGES. For the longest time, it just looked like a Lavendertron-based acid trip. The under-coloring looked HORRENDOUS. You have no idea. I knew from the outset that this one would need to have a bunch of layers of marker color, as well as a heavy dose of colored pencils, if it was to work at all.

It's... It's ok now, I guess. (I am unworthy!) There are some color things happening that I like.

It was TRICKY for me to wrap my brain around a picture in which the light source was a big glowy crystal sword and the exploding chest of a dying transformer (er, Go-Bot). Nothing is its natural color. Well, Cy-Kill's chest is still red-orange, but... yeah. You know what I mean. I layered a TON of colors on this to try and get it somewhat right.

(Poor guy. But it is his fault, I guess, for being the villian in a knock-off series. The resulting hatred is reflexive and undying.)

In other news, my scanner has suddenly decided that everything shall be scanned at washed-out/gray; and I'm back to fighting for my colors. I hope to figure out how to fix this soon. For now, I just automatically move the slider to -20 brightness and +20 contrast... and progress from there.......... *sigh* It was working so well there, for a while! What happened, Scanner?

Anyway, I hope you like it.
I have a major inferiority complex in regards to this one, but I guess my version has its own positive aspects. I'm still not worthy, but we all must keep on practicing, or we won't ever learn nothin!

Thanks again, great ones, for sharing your art!

Tee hee hee -- Grapple was greatly disturbed by this pic.

A very powerful and memorable scene from Megatron Origin, It really helped set up the character of Megatron in the IDW verse and what he would eventually go onto do throughout the series. This piece has a very primal and angry feel and approach to it, the lines and colors show such ferocity and power to Megatron's murder that's amazingly captured.

The piece itself is excellent from a line and color viewpoint, the shading on Megatron's hands is a nice blend of purple and the shading on Megatron's face has a nice mix of different greys giving off the light that's coming from Cy-Kill's stabbing. The lighting Cy-Kill's body where he is being stabbed as well is nicely done with some hints of yellow and purple in there.

This is an amazing work capturing an amazing scene from the comics.

Such an outstanding work of art.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a critique! And I'm very glad to hear that the things I attempted to show with the lighting are working. As always, I wish I could have done better -- perhaps more contrast in value between the two characters. But I'll always keep working and learning!
Thanks again for your critique.

Ha-HeePrime's marker pens strike again, this time in a battle scene involving shiny metal and a glowing energy sword! With no obvious light source besides that blade and the robot eyes, it's fascinating to see how the colours work together on those difficult materials to make the image really "pop".

The technical aspect of layering colours, especially in traditional media without an Undo button, is a hard thing to master but this image shows outstanding skill. Megatron's hands in particular show an amazing range of grey, pink, blue and orange all working together to emphasise shape and shadow.

One really nice touch is the very subtle flat shading on the non-highlighted robot parts - look carefully at Megatron's chest and CyKill's jawline to see the tiny variations of hue that suggest a glossy finish.

This was clearly a labour of love, and a milestone in Ha-HeePrime's collaboration works.

Perhaps MegatronΒ mistaken Cy-Kill for another red/blue/white robot.

Actually Cy-Kill is orange, white, and black, but with that purple sword glowing all over everything, the colors got a little muddled.Β

He was a Go-Bot -- I know next to nothing about them, other than that Cy-Kill was the big bad leader.Β

Yes, he was the leader of the Renegades; some of the Go-Bots story elements were latter married into the recent Transformer series.

I know very little about Go-Bots save it was a TF knockoff and has received a lot of snark over the years, but still, this is well done! I think you did very well with the lighting, especially considering the unusual light-sources. And I always admire someone who can do fantastic coloring with traditional materials.

Love the pink highlights on Meggy. But then I had to look around for the pink lightsource, and I realized it was supposed to be the sword.

Makin' things that are supposed to be glowing really -glow- is what you need to work on in mosta your stuffs, and I totally blame the medium you work in, because this is so much easier with computer colors it seems. There should have probably been a pinkish haze going all the way around the sword, with the colors within this haze faint and subsaturated.

Still a bajillion times better than I would have done.

Thanks for the crit, Chro.
Yeah, I knew I should have done some sort of glow around the edges, but I honestly did not know how. But since I noticed that I totally messed up and his head paint swatches are supposed to be RED NOT YELLOW, and I plan on trying to fix that anyway, I might also try to put some glowiness in. It's going to be..... hard and terrifying, because if I mess up, erasing is a problem. It takes out stuff underneath that I did not want to lose.....
Yeah. Gotta be brave!!!!!!!!!

aww man this turned out BRILLIANT
i really love the feeling i get here, it has a very tangible atmosphere!
you did an excellent job on the merging colors where the actual material color and the color from the lightsource meet as well
and it's very refreshing to see that people still color with traditional media and being so good with it : >
so i have to thank you for giving my lineart some wonderful colors <3

HOLY SL*G ON FIRE!! Those colours, all on Megatron's hands and CyKill's face and the Blade o' Doom!

I can just feel how long this must have taken you, not just the colouring but also the planning and figuring out how to add the layers to get this effect. Megatron's hands are insane, with their grey / purple / nowaitorange / actuallypink shadings.

Poor guy. But it is his fault, I guess, for being the villian in a knock-off series. The resulting hatred is reflexive and undying Pffffhaha, did someone forget to make sure their Dark Side was in the OFF position before they got out of bed this morning?
