I tried to make the background look like a sort of hellish place, but I don't feel like I quite nailed it haha.

Maybe if you'd put a more ragged texture on the walls, and made the clouds more violent in nature, it would seem more hellish?

I like it anyway. Somehow the figure in the middle seems to be both warm and cold at the same time. Love the picture, and the tone it has, even if it wasn't what you were aiming for.
