The Art Club I'm in had a new topic of study - self portraits and this is the result of that. I always have a problem with drawing girls - they always turn out cartoonish. This was done with HB and 8B pencils on computer paper. I used a mirror as well... I'm so self critical with myself on this one.Related content

this is a really nice piece of drawing. i hear what you're saying about drawing girls, i have - sometimes - the same problem with guys in that i MOSTLY draw female subjects, and then when i DO drawn guys they end up looking. . . feminine. i usually have to counbter this with beards and big sideburns. . ah, waht else can you do? *shrug*

I really don't know what else anyone can do about that problem - I wish I did; it's frustrating to draw the same sex for quite a few artists I know. Thanks so much! And thank you for the fav!

Does it really make a difference what gender you draw? I've never noticed that, but I love drawing men!... but that's another story. I think this is very good, the likeness is there, and it doesn't look like a cartoon.

Thank you! I'm glad you think it's great! I still believe I need to work on female hair though... I don't understand why male and female hair are so different (with the exception of female hair being longer) but I think I'm improving a little (slowly but it's improvement).
