Did you know, that to make a sphere from hexagons, you require exactly 12 pentagons spaced as they would be, normal to a dodecahedron at the centre of such a sphere?

I sorta knew that, ha ha. I know the pentagons go with the hexagons, but I never realized they formed a dodecahedron.

What is interesting, though, is that it doesn't matter how big the sphere is - as long as there are 12 pentagons normal to a dodecahedron, you could potentially produce a mathematically significant sphere; hexagons into the thousands of billions.

I'm probably not going to get around to making a portal themed one of those, ha ha.

It'd be easy enough, really... Just make a grey sphere with a rough texture. At that size of detail, nobody'd notice. My plan is dastardly and flawless and dishonest.

I want to paint little numbers on the hearts and use it as a d20. lol JK it's awesome as it is. Hm, I can see Aperture making all the basic solids into companions...

Ha ha, well you wouldn't be the first one!
The complete platonic companion set. I'm tempted to do a more complex shape, but I may blow my own mind.

Interesting idea. The dodecahedron is my favorite polyhedron, and it's a good render. It also kind of looks like it's directly out of Aperture. Good work.
