A pic of the Shinsengumi, not from any particular series even though they're featured in many shows. I wanted to do something recognizable for Anime Expo, but I didn't want to worry about fanart and copyright issues so I stuck with actual historical figures. Although I'm sure the real shinsengumi guys looked nothing like this. Anyway, I might make this a print here at DA later on, but for now, I'm just going to have prints of this at the convention. It's kind of weird looking since it's a bit flattened and the background is a bit abstract, but still, I hope it does well at the con.
Done the usual way. Start to finish on Photoshop. Not sure how long this one took, but I'd guess around 15-20 hours. I debated with myself a while before deciding to throw the foreground out of focus. I have a sharp version of it, but I think the leaves look too busy and cluttered that way.

Actually the shinsengumi had been evolving for several years, so there's no real way to tell exactly how accurate this is. The uniform looks like the ones they used after the Boshin War and became the wolves/demons of Mibu. Nevertheless, this is an amazingly well portrayed characters. I'm guessing Okita Soji, the second leader who's name escapes me, and Fujita Goro (Hajime Saito). Am i right?

Did you have any three historical figures in mind when you did this? The guy on the bottom strikes me as Toshizo Hihikata and the guy at the top as Soshi Okita...but maybe that's just me?

*nodnod* Very good. Like I said, most Shinsengumi fan art is... offensively awful. Yours? I wouldn't call it accurate to their... usually grungy and covered in dirt-ness? Haha. However, it... fits. O.o Dunno. It just works, and it's nice ^^

That soft red cloud-like thingie supports composition perfectly, but techically doesn't fit to the sharply and roughly painted clothes and to the grainy bg. But I have to say... I totally love the faces and they are so much worth this 20 hours

i really like this piece. i take a kendo class, Sakurai-Ha Kogen Itto Ryu, which is the tenth school of the shinsengumi, so naturally i have a great appreciation for this piece.

I love it! This is one of best Shinsengumipictures I`ve ever seen!!
The colours, the persons`positions and faces, the shadows and lights on there uniforms and the details are really incredible and wonderful!
Even the swords are so nice - I love Katana. The screenlayout by oneself is so nice with the tree in the front.
Are the three Shinsengumi specific persons? I my opinion perhaps the first man could be Toshizo Hijikata, the second Okita Soji and the third Hajime Saito?
Finally I think it`s a fantastic artwork and you are a true artist!
