Description Still thinking up a name for this guy.

This is the conceptualized outfit for the Grand High Master of the Shallieh Clan, the guy who started the whole thing and by definition is the most psychically powerful of the lot of them. It'll be used in finishing this picture: [link]

Of notable importance, the little baglets hooked to his belt are supposed to be filled with various substances (none of them illegal XD) such as certain pre-mixed and filtered minerals and herbs which are used in creating their visual shows and in trainings, or perhaps different incenses used for meditation.

And if any of you were interested, that symbol adorning his little 'groin flap' there is indeed the Shallieh Clan.. it has an actual symbolism and isn't just random. It's supposed to represent the 3 secondary eyes a Scymanteria has... it's a powerful psychic symbol.. a lot like the third eye symbol seen with human psychics.

And before anyone asks, no he isn't super buff of anything, if you looked at the original picture you'll see his 'race' has a 'leafy' natural appearance.

I love, not only the Grand Master's clothing, which look like those of a medicine man or a shaman of sorts but his character as well. I love the fact that he has so many intricate pieces of his costume and they all hold symbolism and representation of many things, like talents, training and wisdom he has acquired over his years of existence.

I think once you see him in color the first thing that will come to your mind will be the theme of Buddhist Monks. But I think Shaman fits pretty well too, I still haven't explored too far into the extent of his role in the Shallieh society or his abilities.

My work on the Symantierans (the mantis aliens here, which the Shallieh are only a sub-group of) came in an awkward time between leaving IZ and going into BLT.. so they kinda got squeezed. I probably would have done more with them but they were starved for feedback. Seems like art here on DA never gets as much feedback unless it's fan-art of something, quite funny since you'd expect an art site to encourage creativity. XD Don't get me wrong though, I had a few real good friends who were really into the Scymanterians with me just.. BLT came along. I might come back to them once I fall out of BLT which I inevitably will at some point.

The different symbols adorning his outfit actually have written down meanings, they're in this little meme here: [link] If you're interested in learning about the Scymanterians I started a big journal where I tried to create as much information about them as I could: [link]

The oriental and asian influences make this something far more enjoyable than your IZ lore, and adds a nice strong overall character for the clothing. The Grandmaster apparently being a combination of a witchdoctor or shaman, while of course, barring the title of Grand Master. Not to mention the strong symbolism that you have also established.

Again, my lack of any actual knowledge of cultural influences shines through because I don't actually know what a Shaman actually does.. but I've heard of it. I don't really know much about Witchdoctors either haha.. see why I'm kinda afraid to use real cultural references?

The title "Grand Master" is actually part of a ranking system I'm developing withing the Shallieh, so keep an eye out for that.

I think you can combine the two of them, and the assumptions on both of the cultures can be "artistic freedom".

I look forward to this ranking system.

With great concentration he can tapdance backwards through time. Very nice. P.S. The 'groin flap' would technically be called a codpiece, although as we know his cods aren't over there.

Very cool, I like the sort of "shaman" look with the lil bags and...groin flap XD

How old is this guy BTW? preferably in human years if possible

Haha well I can't deny any inspirations from those kinds..haha

Oh probably around late 50s I'd say? His wife is probably around 40 just in case you were going to say anything about an age gap. XD She just looks good for her age.

Ooooooooooooooooooh~

...Am I the only one that imagines him like Manny from "Bug's Life"? [link]

Yes yes.. that's a little coincidence that I'll probably never be able to live down. Seriously I wasn't even thinking about A Bugs Life when I made the Scymanteria! Kinda sucks because I hate there being reasons for people thinking I'm not being original. : ( I can pride myself in at least giving them 4 legs instead of 2 like a real Mantis though!

Yo man, I never thought of you as being unoriginal~! Setting aside the basic design and concept, Manny and your Scymanterians are completely different.

I know what you feel, man, being afraid of being seen as unoriginal.

Well ok, if you can really think of it that way. : / I just find it hard to believe you can really feel that way.. they look VERY similar.

I know they seem very similar, but honestly, 'OMG THIEVERY' never clicked in my mind.
The only reason I thought of Manny here was because the Grand Master was doing some mystical mojo I immediately connected with magic tricks |D

Well that and he has those old guy bags under his eyes another thing that makes him look a bit like Manny. If you wanted a more detailed idea there, I'd say he's practicing some pyrokinesis probably trying to ignite whatever he has loaded inside that glass ball there.
