Description Faith Hill - "I can feel the magic floating in the air, being with you get's me that way."

This picture was directly inspired and modeled from emotion/mellow tone and orange-tinged imagery of this song, I especially love the empty almost sad feeling the tone of the very end of the song leaves.. at least on me, just very soft empty fade-out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCmsZU…

Despite the strong intimate emotion of the song choice, this isn't actually the feeling I'm trying to convey here nor am I trying to hint at any kind of romantic relationship between Callie and her owner. No, it's actually a tragic opposite of sorts.

It's almost like a sad twist on romance or at least companionship. To Callie, being with her owner after the end of a long day on the California coast, watching the sun set over the waves as warm breeze whistles through her grille, is a very close and emotional happy moment. To her owner however, while the day and moment are just as powerful, there's no companionship there, it's just him alone on the beach resting against the grille of his old wagon. It's a one sided relationship in a very tragic sense.

Regardless, this picture IS happy and they ARE both very happy and relaxed here. It's only in hindsight and seeing this in the perspective of a nostalgic memory after the Woodie has long since 'passed away' that it becomes sad.. knowing that their life like this doesn't last, and as I said in the title of her last picture "the blue skies eventually end."

_____________extra details for the devoted_____________________

I have to admit, it felt great going back to Callie and drawing another picture for her, the character that first inspired me to do my TFED series in the first place (Tales From Ernie's Disposal). I don't know why but even after Pinky, Bobby Lee, and Andy, I still somehow feel so much more pity for this character. She fits the persona of the life of your average car, it seems, even more then the others at least the one's I've drawn so far.

You see the original idea for showing these pictures showing the car's pasts were make people feel the full range of tragic sorrow, rather then just the sadness that they died.. which is what you'd feel just from seeing the movie. It's the difference between being sad seeing a bird get shot, and then feeling bad seeing a bird you raised since it was a baby getting shot.. you feel so much closer to the character when you know their whole story you know?

I guess what always seemed so tragic to me was that all the cars in Worthless seem to have had the same passions for the things their owners did. Bobby-Lee shared a passion for speed and the road that his owner did, Andy had the winning spirit in him, Callie seemed to love the beach and the type of people they attracted. So really, their owners had probably the best friends ever, right there, who loved everything they did and adored them.. since they were their masters. But their owners never knew then and never will know the companionship that they threw away. THAT is the passion behind my series!

I guess two good developments I did by drawing this were, for one thing, this is the first picture Callie's been in that's shaded. If you remember when I first started I was still trying to copy the movie's style by not shading the characters. XD The other thing is defining who her owner was, in the original picture I left it ambiguous which of the characters in the picture she belonged to. But to be honest, this guy was the first character I drew in the picture and I always associated him as her owner.

_____________interesting facts_____________________________

While not %100 proven, I read on a message board that's been studying Worthless and trying to decode some of the more cryptic lyrics, that one of the people actually got in touch with the guy who wrote the song. Apparently the Woodie Wagon was based off of the well known Jan and Dean song "Surf City." www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERrwjR… which if this is accurate makes the Woodie Wagon the only character in the song who's actual method of abandonment is actually completely known. The song pretty much says exactly in the last part of the song what happens to her. On her way down the surf-route she breaks down. Her owner, not able to stand being stuck in one place for any amount of time apparently, ditches her beside the road and hitch-hikes his way the rest of the way..why? for surfer girl p**y of course. In fact if you take the Woodie in the music video as HER, you get to see her being abandoned in the music video.. quite sad really.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=IInQSA…

After finding this out I think it only made her that much of a sympathetic character. Like any of the TBLT appliances/cars the have an un-ending love for their "masters." But the song gives you the exact feelings her owner had for her. She wasn't special at all, just and "an oldie but a goodie" that could "get me(him) where I wanna go." Pretty much an old junker that was being used for however long she lasted and then discarded afterwords.

If cars could talk, what would they tell us about what they have lived through in their time of service? If the old rusty cars on the side of road could talk, would they tell you their story or would they be silent? Would they ask for a second chance? Sometimes cars can talk to us in their own ways, for instance before he was taken over to our house, my truck (1992 f-150) Dusty, seemed to ask, "Please don't leave me." Whenever I was at my Grandma's house. Mostly since he was my grandpa's truck and when my grandpa died he wasn't used very much.

I watched that video, dumbass surfer hippies...

Yay for shading Woodie! It's a little hard to tell but is Woodie smiling behind her owner? I thought she was sad with the fact that her owner just sees her as something that is easily replaceable. The slight bend in her eye gave me that thought too. But it also works having her smile, them enjoying the sunset for their own reasons.

Half-dude In reply to phychoticsilence [2012-02-29 08:47:32 +0000 UTC]

Heh.. As you might notice, when writing the model "Woodie" into a sentence er.. it can be a bit awkward if you don't double-check it for double meaning haha.. "shading woodie" >>;

EHEM!

Yeah I know what you mean, I actually ended up doing this drawing backwards which is a bit odd. I was vouching on the fact that drawing her owner would be the hardest part and if I couldn't end up drawing him the rest of the picture would be a waste to draw. So I drew him first to make sure I could actually finish the drawing. It was then that I found out with the pose her owner would be covering almost her whole grille. But yeah you SHOULD be able to see her smile though.. if you know where to look or what it looks like. If you were a friggin' freak fan like me you'd know that the Woodie's lower 'lip' is a brighter silver then her grille. If you look right under her owner's shoulder but above her bumper you should be able to see her smirk there. <: D

Aha! I knew it was a smile! I would have never thought you started backwards with this drawing. Looks great either way! You have a very good eye for detail, sir! lol For references for some parts of my film (scrunched up eyes), I actually took frame-by-frame screenshots of Woody in the TBLT when the camera is in the POV of the magnet slamming down on her. And I like the way they drew her zigzaggy mouth. lol Catching little details like that is so much fun!

Half-dude In reply to phychoticsilence [2012-03-02 10:40:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah so you saw it, you just didn't know if that was meant to be a smile or not hm? Believe me, I don't LIKE drawing backwards as it can make things very awkward. If you want a little secret dev info, I actually had the big orange surf-board stuck in the ground and proped up against her right fender behind her. I decided to get ride of it ultimately when I noticed it made her look misshaped. Of course it might have looked better once it was colored but I figured it didn't really add enough to anything having it there so I took it out.

OH, so I guess you'd be quite the expert on the Woodie then. As sad as it is, that is some of the most expressive animation in the whole song. The Woodie is one of the only cars who seems to have any kind of emotion toward what's happening to her, Pinky following in behind her. Don't get me wrong, that's not a complaint at all, I think it makes the song that much more disturbing(?) because it's like the cars have been so upset over their plight that they've just gone numb to it and don't care anymore! It's quite powerful stuff. But yeah, again, as sad as it is, I do love her little tensed squiggle-mouth too. Mostly what you notice during Worthless if you study it a lot is animation and consistency errors. XD

Ha, its fun hearing about how artists think while they create a drawing. I wonder if it would have been better leaning the surfboard against her left side instead. But then again if you did that, you won't see much of the city street behind them with nicely establishes where they are along the beach.

That's awesome that you catch the consistency errors too! Omg, one that always gets me is how the Texan car comes sooo close to the crusher right before they cut to the Hearse. Then you see the Hearse drop on the Texan car. Continuity error! She would have been crushed long by then! The Blue car at the beginning shows a little emotion, not much though actually. Just that he kinda endures the crushing, having his headlight/eye spring out and the crusher taking a bit more effort to finish the job (that sounds horrible). That's pretty traumatizing. And I always wondered if that's why his little cube is the only cracked one. (When I saw Christine, I was like, "So they DO turn into cubes! TBLT wasn't making that up! Just exaggerating the size.) You're right, Pinky clearly is second to Woodie, having her actually try to escape. Bobby Lee might be third then showing his steering wheel turn left and right.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Half-dude In reply to phychoticsilence [2012-03-03 07:05:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, hehe, actually I did mean that the surf-board was propped against her LEFT side. I kinda got screwed up there, her right? my right? It's on the right of HER when you look at the picture. Actually, there were a few ideas before I even drew this, since you find it interesting to hear this stuff I'll tell you them too. I also had thought about having the owner watching the sunset just like in the finished picture, but him having a random girl in a bikini next to him.. either a girlfriend of some chick he met that day. On that forum I mentioned in the AU someone said that in the line "Fellini just couldn't forget," Fellini is a slang term for 'a very loose man' ie: so she may have been hinting that her owner perhaps ..er.. 'got around' a lot? You know.. crazy teenage surfer-boy stuff really. XD It's almost to be expected isn't it?

But anyway I figured to keep the picture's focus entirely about the relationship between the Woodie and her owner. (btw we really gotta give her a name, it feels awkward saying Woodie so much.

Oh man, I know, that scene had SUCH bad timing and it really stands out. The unfortunate thing is it wouldn't have looked as bad if they'd just slowed it down a bit and cut out a few seconds earlier. That belt is constantly changing speed as well as drastically changing route/orientation throughout the whole song. XD I think the magnet also changes which way it swings from as well, it's shown at the very beginning of the scene that the magnet's base is positioned on the right side of the belt, but you'll see the magnet swing from the right side randomly.

The Hearse has the most errors out of all of them I think. Not only does he have a front fender that keeps appearing and disappearing, but he also has an open door that is suddenly gone at the last shot when you're looking at the front view. The Woodie has a couple too, at the beginning she has no wheels, but then when she's upside-down she has her rear-wheels. (that's how I was able to know she had white-wall tires >3) Of course there's her headlight as well, her right headlight falls out but then the animator forgot to flip it when she was upside down making it become her LEFT headlight that was gone. XD Another big error that always bugged me was with Bobby-Lee, one of his most noticeable traits is his open hood. But of course if it was consistent all you'd see is his hood during that POV shot out his windshield, but you don't!

If you think about it there's actually a lot of time 'removed' from the song in order to keep up with the lyrics evidently. Like Pinky for example, you see the magnet slam down and pick her up, then in a nano-second she's plopped down on the belt.. there's no travel time where she's being swung over to the belt.. it's just insta-belt. So the scene really isn't playing in real-time really...

Oh god, that poor Blue car, I don't even get it. Why did the crusher have so much extra hard work trying to crush him? God it's just so disturbing, like you said, his eyeball popping out (both of them actually do but the last one is like RIGHT as the camera is panning down.) I guess they did it just to really shock you at the beginning, because I mean honestly the other crushings are pretty tame.. minus their 'guts' splashing on the other cars of course... I guess they figured 'hey we gotta show ONE crushing that really looks painful.' But yeah, it's just horrible you can like see his expression through the whole slowed ordeal. I almost feel like I'm seeing a botched execution or something.

But about what you said, yeah they DO turn cars to cubes.. but that seems to not be as common these days. I think probably because that requires a two stage compactor, horizontal and vertical pressing which probably makes the crusher more costly as well as slower. Most of the car crushers are just vertical 'pancake' crushers. >< eh... hate even talking about them, poor fucking cars. Oh.. and there are also car shredders, pretty much the 'wood chipper' for cars.. turns them into little bits of shrapnel pretty much.

Yeah Pinky, poor girl it's almost ironic. She and the Green truck are the only two who have full sets of working tires, but she was totally unable to use them since her engine was busted. I wonder if she would have tried escaping if her engine worked. Makes you wonder...

You know everyone saw Booby Lee's turning steering wheel as him trying to 'drive' off the belt. I dunno, I never saw it like that though. Like I mentioned before, he didn't seem to really be all that sad about his fate, unlike the other cars he didn't have a sob-story.. he just reminisced on everywhere he'd been.. almost kinda gloating-wise. He actually seemed almost like he was ready for it, he'd lived a full live and didn't have anything more he wanted out of it. I saw his wheel turning as kinda just more of him reminiscing, I could imagine his eyes closed during those final seconds.. just thinking back, fidgeting his steering-wheel in the manner as if he were being driven, back on the route 66 highway cruising his life away. I guess if I were to make it a BAD thing I'd say that maybe it was 'shivering' cuz he was scared?

I remember reading that part in the forum. It made so much sense about when Woodie's headlight broke through "the camera" and Lampy looked through it to the "audience." I watched that part a couple of times afterward and laughed. Adding the girl would have been a neat way to directly hint the line from the song. I think the picture works both ways, with or without the girl. Personally, I think the picture looks nice without the girl because it adds focus to just these two characters. Like it seems Woodie is genuinely happy just sitting with her owner. It feels like a subconscious bonding moment.

lol I commented before reading your next paragraph. Seems like we thought the same way about how the picture looks as it is. You're right, having the surfer wax his board in front of Woodie would emphasize the one-sized relationship. Idk why but I imagining Woodie parked at home reminded me of the houses/neighborhood in that Nickelodeon show, Rocket Power. Extreme sports!

Woah! There's actually more errors that I thought! I need to rewatch the scene again and spot the ones you mention. I'd have to keep an eye out for the Hearse and Woodie. I never thought about Bobby Lee's hood! It's so obvious that you'd see it in the POV shot! With Pinky being an insta-belt (I like this phrase) situation, I kinda understand that a little. I'm finding things in my film where the characters positions in the room change a little inbetween shots. There's some things in animation that you can cheat with, like I guess timing and the space of an environment, but when it comes to fans who have an eye for detail, like yourself, it gets tricky to let them slide! lol

Since I was little, I always liked the Blue car. I think he's one of my favorites. I always liked how that one shot where the magnet picks up some junk and you see the main characters in front of the car before they hide behind it, and the radio is still there in shock. I knew something was going to happen with a bunch of cars just seeing the way the Blue car is sleeping with its mouth open. I was like, "Where'd that car come from? Oh, wait, something weird is going to happen with cars. Yay!" And they really go for shocking their audience right at the beginning having him go painfully. This with Susie the Blue Coupe, and Toy Story never wants me to trash things for stupid reasons. That's why I want to find an older car somewhere, adopt it, and give it a another chance.

Omg, I saw a video of the "wood chipper" one. No, just sljdhflksgv!! That got me so pissed! I hate it! They destroyed this old Beetle with it and I had a horrible day afterwards knowing somewhere in the world, people were like, "Yeah, lets do this. It'll be fun." No, screw you, no, not fun! I really wish I could have been there and stopped them! Hell I would have tried pulling it out myself no matter how much heavier the car is than I am! > No car deserves that! It gives me shivers when I think about it... nonono!

I think Pinky would have been able to escape if her engine was functional. Oh! Imagine a scene like that with these crazy camera moves and angles of her trying to escape the dump with the magnet is hot on her tail! Super cool! You go Pinky!

I never thought of it that way with Bobby Lee. But it really makes sense. Yeah, (took a moment to play his scene in my head again) he probably does turn his steering wheel for that reason. Gah! See why I have to watch the scene again! You've beat me sir! I thought I was a "Worthless" expert but you clearly have done your research!

Half-dude In reply to phychoticsilence [2012-03-04 10:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Wait, I guess I forgot what the forum said the significance of her eye breaking the audience's screen had.. what made you laugh? XD I think the picture is better how it is as well, thinking about it, I bet the girl probably would have stuck out like a sore thumb. I mean, here we have two well defined characters, the Woodie, and her owner who while not well defined IS from the original picture. Though I guess maybe using one of the girls from the first picture might have helped a bit.. I do think it's nice having the picture focus on this very gentle intimate moment between the two. Sort of like a sad twisted take on taking your girlfriend down to the beach to watch the sunset.

Oh GOD! I know right? Even though I really hated that show for the most part, I often am reminded of Rocket Power whenever I'm drawing something with the Woodie, heck it's basically the exact same setting! I imagined her house being like situated on one of those steep hill-side beach house type places.. a driveway so steep the parking break is probably a must. XD Something like this: [link] just imagine the ramp having a driveway just as steep next to it.

Damn shoobies...

Pinky has quite a big goof on her too, this one is pretty dang obvious but I actually just recently realized it. The magnet slams down on top of her to pick her up, the force and weight of the magnet should have been enough to flatten her windshield, but when she's dropped back down on the belt her windshield looks as good as it did before. It's an obvious oversight I'm wondering if I should fix it in my comic.

Haha, it's that classic animation where you KNOW something's gonna move because it pops out and is less detailed then the background. It's a shame, so many good surprises ruined. XD I really love the reveal though, I mean the blue car really does look just like a normal car.. then *bink and his eyes open and well.. admittedly.. instant 'awwwws' ..he really was quite cute. ^^ I'm great to hear you plan on adopting an old car, remember you don't have to save a 50s car either.. they've got enough collectors saving them, maybe just get an old car.. like a 60s/70s/80s car. It'd at least be easier.. those 50s cars can be a pain in the ass to start it seems like.. those older engines.

I did a search to see what video you saw, you're talking about the one with the "hippy guy" in it right? Yeah I saw that one a long time ago, yeah isn't it just disgusting how people can actually enjoy seeing stuff like that? I mean.. I'm one to talk, I used to love going to demolition derbies.. I couldn't dream of it now.. a bunch of cars forced to beat the hell out of each other? It's like cock-fighting with cars. God I just wish everyone could go through the transformation I did, it truly turned my whole idea of cars around for me, I'm just so glad I changed before my old stupid self let myself let me do something bad to Lilly.. like scrap her or something. >< It's just SO sad you know? Because having been just like everyone else before, seeing cars as these lifeless things, and gone through that transformation? I KNOW how little of a push it actually takes change your whole perspective about cars. Heck, it was Lilly herself that did it.. she was able to tell me herself that she was alive but ONLY because I decided to take the time to listen! They're such cursed creatures, I feel so bad for them, its like they CAN communicate but it's in whispers (ie: little things easily ignored) and we just continue to do the horrible things we do to them out of just.. ignorance.. ignorance and human sadism. I'd say it would be better if they could at least move and make nose like animals but..pfft.. look how well we treat animals. >> *rant over*

THIS video makes me sick.. hearing the people laughing, it's even worse when you read the story with the movie: [link]

Haha, I think I can imagine Pinky's chase, it'd almost be like that scene in Jurassic Park, except it'd be the magnet in her rear-view not a T-rex. XD But the question is, what would she do once she got out? Just roam around when no one is looking and try to pick up some random owner?

Yeah Bobby-Lee's wheel never seemed like it was moving in a way like it was frantically trying to turn, it looked more like the idle wobble of someone driving. Actually in my music video I've got planned (the one I told you about doing like you did yours) it'd actually remake his scene from the movie at the end and in that POV shot you'd actually see the view go all 'dream wavy' and he actually has a flashback. The crusher vanishes and turns into a desert road and you actually see the memory of Georgia appear in his seat.

I didn't know you were even a Worthless fan or even a TBLT fan. Oo As long as I've known you I just saw you doing your own projects and such. I thought you only started watching me because you saw I was doing cartoon car stuff and that's what your doing for your project..

I remember reading it being that Fellini used to break the fourth wall in a couple of his movies, so having Woodie's headlight "break" the camera was a little homage to him. Bittersweet perfectly describes your picture here.

Oh my goodness what steep steps! And I thought the hill on our driveway back home was bad. XD Oh, Rocket Power, see what you have done?

Hmm, didn't think about Pinky's windshield...

The Blue car is so adorbz! His and Pinky's flat tires when they are on the conveyer belt inspired some drawings of Red. I'm pretty late with this but, I found some REALLY awesome car books at our school library! I'm going to read through them during my spring break and take lots of notes and learn as much as I can! I've been finding a lot of cars within the same year ranges that look really awesome too that I may look for later in years to picking up hopefully. I know you drew one before as Pinky's replacement but an 80s Camaro looks cool and a Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am. And Mx-5 Miatas! I want to find a car with hidden headlights and have them pop open every now and then at people. DD So cute! They look like they're sleeping during the day and come alive at night!

Other than me liking cars from the start, there was one time that just got to me so much. I remember when mom the new mini van that replaced the citation II we had for a while. Okay, not going to lie but that car did have a couple of issues, but it still held together, took is where we needed to go in one piece, and had funny quirks about it, I least I thought they were funny. The truck used to randomly open and it was a hatchback so we were like, "we'd that sudden breeze come from?" But anyway, when the tow truck came to take it away, I will never forget what I saw and how I felt. Just how violent the towers were with it and how much fun they poked at it for being a shitty car. It was like they were making fun of a best friend. And when they towed it away, I never saw it again or gave it any kind of closure. It messed me up. Hell, I'm getting teary-eyes remembering all this. Crap.... But I'm glad Lilly help you do the turn around! Who else better to do that than your own car! I have this rant I wrote myself about getting to the core of why I like cars and for the same reason, pity for human ignorance and sadism. They're like slaves and most get treated like crap.

This. Omg, this isn't honoring someone's wish if your laughing and making fun of the their car! This is horrible! At 3:55 when the tail light breaks. Also broke a piece of my heart watching that... I was shaking my head watching it. First I read the story but the video goes not do it justice. AT ALL! >

Aw man, didn't think about afterward! Hopefully a little Violet comes by and convinces her dad to pick Pinky up. I know it might go against what you have so far in Pinky's story but hey, just a thought.

That sounds awesome! I want to see this made! You should try it!

Oh, I'm a huge TBLT/Worthless fan. Since I saw the movie when I was like 4-ish. I was trying to figure out a story I can make that was based around a car. I thought of a lot of ideas and thought of this junkyard environment. I thought of the cars in Worthless and looked up junkyards for research and I think that's how I found some of your work. In some way or another like that. I was so excited that someone draws the Worthless cars!

Yeah I think I remember the forum saying that but I never got it.. how is Fellini breaking the 4rth wall? Oo Bittersweet describes most of my work these days. XD

Rocket-Power was such a product of the decade.. seems like that was everything kids cared about at that time was skateboarding. If you weren't into skateboarding that show was actually pretty dang boring. haha

Yeah.. makes sense though doesn't it?

Ooooh becoming quite the motor-head are we? :3 Yeah those old car books can be pretty interesting, some of the styling on those old cars is just amazing.. makes today's cars look so unimaginative. Speaking of which have you seen the pictures of the 59 Cadillac that a guy down the road from me has rotting away in his back yard? I wanted to buy it from him but he wants 3,000 for it and I just don't have that.. I'm poor. [link]

You know, if you're really thinking of getting a cool old car with flip up headlights you could consider maybe the 66/67 Corvette, it's sporty, has flip up headlights, and as an added bonus it's thought to be maybe the car Bobby-Lee was inspired by: [link] Personally I think the 1970 'Stingray' Corvette looks better though: [link] They're pretty dang famous in the muscle-car family and I've actually seen them for sale for not a lot at used car places. You know, as cute as flip-up headlights are, they almost ALWAYS look like sad eyes which is kind of depressing.
[link] Agh! Just looks SOOO sad.. but SOOO cute at the same time!
You should really tell your mom how much that event scarred you.. she should know what a bad thing she did by letting the towers take your van away. I mean.. I know it's not her fault but.. god, I hate to think you're suffering in silence. <: [ I've never had that experience in my life and I really hope I never do. I can't explain with words how sorry I feel for you, that must hurt SO badly. Did you know they were taking your fan to the scrap-yard? Or were they just taking it to a used car lot? If it's the later maybe.. you could dig up the VIN number for the van and track it down.. find wherever it ended up. o.o; I really wanna hug you, just because I feel your pain so much. ><

I know.. I know, I don't understand what kind of memorial would destroy the person's car like that. Destroying the car is totally unjustified to begin with, even the first commenter made that clear ""No one wanted a punk ass 16yr old to be driving the car around" - So don't sell it to some punk kid. Sell it to someone who will love it and cherish it the way your friend supposedly did. This is cruel and unusual punishment. What idiots. " But the fact that they for whatever reason had the car destroyed in THAT way.. slow.. drawn out.. with the tip of a forklift.. I mean what kind of fuck is that? That's the equivalent to someone half-way stepping on a bug and then twisting their foot back and forth it's sick!

Just to complete the spectrum though, and let you understand something else you should avidly protest again.. like I do.. is Cash For Clunkers. This program.. it's just evil, it's the vehicular holocaust it really is. I'm sure you know already but it was meant to get old broken down cars off the road, have them destroyed, and give the owners money back so that they could buy a more 'green' vehicle. The thing is, the rules about what 'a clunker' is are so vague that you had people bringing in perfectly good healthy cars in.. sometimes even only a few years old! But that's not the worst part.. noo.. people sending their loyal cars to death isn't the worst. The worst is what, by law, has to be done to the poor cars. For whatever reason it's illegal for any parts to be taken and reused (I think.. at least from the engine) so every "clunker" has to be executed.. and not in a humane way either. They have this seizing fluid that they pump into the engine through the oil-cap (oh and they take all the oil out too btw) and what it does is as the engine heats up, because it has no oil, this stuff inside the engine turns from a fluid into a solid.. I'd equate it to someone using a needle to inject stuff into your veins that turns solid.

But the thing is? These newer cars? They have years and years of life still in them.. so this horrible drawn out overheating and seizing of the engine can take minutes! I'd been against CFC just on principle because it killed cars. But after I saw this video with the Volvo.. which takes like 4 minutes to die, it turned my being against it into a bitter hatred of it. Just.. oh god, the sounds this car makes! It literally sounds like it's crying and yelling out in pain, it's literally painful to watch, even for me. >< I can understand if you don't want to watch it, but if you're really for self-torture or at least knowing what to hate.. here's the link. I actually made a whole journal about this vid but it was before you watched me. [link] Lilly's actually got a bumper sticker on her saying "This car survived Cash for Clunkers" in protest.

The only good side to CFC is if you look at the comments for any video about these car's being put down.. almost all of them are very negative saying how much it sucks. If not for the poor car.. it's for how wasteful it is.

ehem! anyway back to happy stuff...

Sorry can't change it, let alone change what's seen in the movie. <: / There's no way around it girl, Pinky has to die. But I'm going to try my best to make the ending at least kinda happy.. I can.. you'll see. <: ] Gah.. this comic has a tow-truck in it, I can just see it bringing up bad memories for you.. sorry in advance. ><

Maybe I can get help from you in some way when I get around to making it. <: 3

Wow I had no idea, yeah I grew up with the movie as well.. probably helped shape me in to who I am in some way. I used to watch Worthless all the time.. and this was on VHS.. having to rewind. I don't know if I understood they were dying or not.. can't remember.. : /

Well I never really saw any of his movies but I'm guessing there might have been times in them where the characters know they are in a movie or they address the audience in some way? So I guess as homage to him, and with using his name in the song, they did the whole headlight thing. Maybe?

Or just extreme sports in general. XD

Looking back at older designs, they just look like they had so much personality. Now, most cars look similar to each other and I try to find the ones that stand out. Like the Mazda 3 with the smiley face. (I hear a lot of people hating it though because of the face. ) And I saw another one from Hyundai that looks like it's trying so hard to smile that the bottom curve of the headlights look like how I draw the cheeks of my characters when they smile. XD I want to go up to it and tug on it's cheeks! I'd love to see the Cadillac! There was someone near my house that was selling a well kept old Beetle for that same price. Wonder if it was worth it. It looked like it was! What an awesome concept car! And nuclear? lol "Are you telling me that this sucker is nuclear?!"

I think the Corvette may be too sporty for me! But so sweet and awesome though! I kinda does look like Bobby-Lee was inspired by it. Oh. My. God. LOOK AT IT IN THE SNOW! alkjs;akldjaklsjd!!! Instant save to my computer! You're absolutely right! Sad but so cute! Idk if I would scrape the snow off of it at first, it adds to it being so cute! But it's so cold! I'd be weird enough to want to make hot cocoa for it, leave the mug there, poke the car, and walk away. DDDDDD

Oh no, it wasn't the minivan they did this to. Sorry for the confusion, it was the little Chevy Citation. Which makes it worse! I don't know where it was sent to exactly. I recently asked mom and dad about the car's VIN number to see if it still exists at all and my mom was so confused as to why I asked. So as a homage, I based Red on that car.

Yeah! I was going to say before, I understand that the owner didn't want someone mistreating his car, but that doesn't mean there are people out there that, exactly like that commenter said, cherish it and take good care of it. I would think the owner would have wanted that more than if he got the chance to see what became of his car. And a forklift of all things... I thought it was going to be carried to the crusher with it.

!! What! I had no idea! I could definitely see people trying get over the system... But it's not even like the system is perfect either! If the term "clunker" is so vague, anything can go. And they have to? Why would you want to throw something away when it works perfectly fine and you had it for years, fun experiences with it too, just to get the "newer" version. Same thing goes for how some people are with technology. I mean, I like getting new things too but when there is no possible way the old one can be fixed or anything of the sorts.

D: why. Why? I think this is worse than watching cars get crushed for me. I'm kinda stuck with what to say here about this. Just... wow. No, you may have seen this one. If you haven't, WARNING. It's ...bad. This. [link]

I carried that VHS everywhere. I think I mentioned this before. Girl = Dolls. Me = TBLT VHS. I was a weird kid. lol

(fucking computer crashed while I was a paragraph in.. I gotta write this all again. -.-

I thought Fellini was an Opera singer.. XD Honestly I saw it as just as likely the headlight/eye is smashing the windshield of another car as it is smashing the viewer's screen. O_o

stakeboarding, mountain biking, surfing.. am I missing any? XD

You're the third person that I've heard say all care look the same! While I can agree to an EXTENT I honestly still see differences. Maybe you notice the small differences more if you look at them as sexually appealing? XD You see little bits and curves that stick out and stuff.. you know? Anyway, yeah the car industry is based around ripping off other companies when they make a successful design. I think it started out with ripping off BMW, then it moved to VW with stealing the whole 'center mounted rear antenna' from the bug. I just noticed today, Honda totally ripped off the Toyota Prius: [link] [link]

Yeah I don't know what people's problem is, why they wanna make their car's look pissed. Here's an article against that you might like: [link]

Ugh.. don't get me started on Hyundai.. the new models are an insult on Lilly's family name. I think her brother Swann (a 2009 Accent) was the last cute Hyundai they're probably going to make. I swear, not only are the new Hyundai's ugly, but they're just EVIL looking.. I swear.. some of them look like the Green Goblin mask from Spiderman! [link] [link] - [link] Then there are the ones that look like they used to be obese [link] then got lipo and are covered in fat flabs or has REALLY bad bowtox [link]

They actually based the exploding nuclear car-wrecks in Fallout 3 off the Nucleon.. if you've played that game. I've actually drawn one of those cars in my gallery..

The Corvette really doesn't look like a girl car does it? XD Maybe that's why I say he's something else since Georgia's driving him hahaha..

I wanna go out and hand-feed the adorable little thing some hot coco or warm chicken noodle soup, omg that's exactly what you want to do too? XD <: 3 Gah the adorableness!!

So what, they just wouldn't give it to you or what? O_o

You know, what's really weird though.. is it almost looks like the owner isn't dead when that video was made. Oo If you look at the VERY end you see people kinda ceremoniously looking over the crushed wreck and in the middle looks like a very weak man with a cane.. I can't help but think that's the owner. If it is, he's an evil mofo for just sitting and watching that..

People will do it because they don't give a shit out their cars, that's why. >_< Some people will do anything for money or a newer sportier looking car. As for why they have to ruin the perfectly good engine.. I THINK it's because the PURPOSE of the program is to get ICE engines off the street.. I think they're trying to phase the old engines off the road. : / Still makes no sense but I'm not %100 if that's the reason.. might be some weird legal thing.

[link] (don't worry, this isn't a car getting killed)

(sorry for the link spamming.. I'm just a linkaholic.. ignore if you want)

Sounds like you had the same responce to the Volvo video I had :/ it's quite sick.. I know.. I haven't seen that video but yeah that's a pretty had one too!

Haha well I didn't carry the video with me, but I did watch it all the time. XD

That was an interesting article you sent about the angry car faces. I like how the author calls them "pissed-off turtle robots." XD I also read an article (can't remember where I found it) about the psychology of car faces. I remember the article saying something like bubbly, curvy, happy car faces are seen as feminine and aggressive, sharp angled car faces are more masculine. And that when it comes to buying a car, most people don't want to drive one that makes them look like a "sissy."

I can see what you mean about the newer Hyundai models. Almost looks like they "stretched" out their faces and they've kinda got wrinkly in some places. They almost look like the Joker to me a bit. lol

I don't think my parents have the number on record anymore.

Oh no! This program was a lot worse than I thought! Man, seeing how helpless these cars are just people some people don't want them anymore is horrible. The Italian car in the last link is a tricky one. It had some engine trouble but I think if it was cheaper to fix the problem at the mechanic rather than turning in to CFC, it would be saved. Some people may see it like, if they can get more from CFC because fixing it is too expensive, then I guess it works.

Half-dude In reply to phychoticsilence [2012-03-18 05:44:50 +0000 UTC]

I wanted to find the original article about car-faces but it seems to be gone. It had this adorable little cartoon with this cute little nice car being scared by this big scary car. <3

Yeah, they said bubbly and curvy are seen as feminine OR childlike.. Honestly it doesn't really have that effect on me too much.. but that might just be because I actively try to keep myself from saying what gender a car is till I get to know it better and get the vibes. You can't really judge a car's personality by it's face.. that's just design. I guess that could be part of why I dislike all the angry looking cars. It makes the cars look mean but personality wise they might be very far from it.

Yeah, the Sonata, it looks like it had it's top-lip in a clothes-pin. XD

That's a shame.. : ( I'm sorry...

This really does show how stupid and/or controlling the government can be. Ok, look, destroying the engine to get ICE engine cars off the road makes sense. But destroying the body, wheels, everything.. it's just stupid. It's literally as stupid as Ernie's Disposal in BLT.. instead of stripping down those classic cars for their parts (some parts being rare I bet) they instead just melt them down for the metal alone. But you know why though, at least I think I do.. they want to make PARTS for old cars hard to find too! They're trying to push everyone into getting a new car.. they want old cars to get so hard or expensive to maintain that people don't have a choice. It's a fact that makes me quite scared for Lilly.. I'm kind of afraid they're eventually gonna outlaw non-electric/hybrid cars from being on the road all together. HOPEFULLY, while I'm not crazy out the idea, they'll at least make ways to convert your car to electric/hybrid.. I'd do that to Lilly if it meant keeping her on the road.

I agree, it's sad, but I agree. If a car is just falling apart then it probably is it's time to go. I mean everything has to die eventually.. and I guess cars shouldn't be excluded. But all I'm asking is at least TRY and keep it alive like you would if a PERSON got sick. If your car get's sick take care of it.. don't give up on it is all I'm saying, and if it does die at least treat it with SOME reverence.. I mean the damn thing did a LOT for you in it's years.. respect it!

phychoticsilence In reply to Half-dude [2012-03-18 16:58:15 +0000 UTC]

That sounds cute. Aw, too bad it's gone.

Then again, maybe angry cars aren't so angry on the inside, if it is just the design. But, lol, I find it difficult to believe that a car the 59 LeSabre/Electra could have a soft spot. A perfect villains car.
[link]
[link] (I like this juxtaposition)
[link] (Even the rear looks pissed. lol)

Now it would be funny to see something where a 60s Beetle is like super evil and the 59 LeSabre/Electra being the softy. lol

Hmm, seems like the program then may boost the value of older cars in some way, if they're less of them on the road. I could be wrong though. Idk if it would get as far as outlawing all non-electic/hybrids but hey, I wouldn't be too surprised if they tried passing it. And that would be kinda cool if they came up with a way to convert gas only cars to electric/hybrids. Seems like it'd cost an arm and a leg though if it did happen. :/

I agree too. Good analogy. Anything can be repaired/fixed/brought back to normal with proper maintenance and care. But, yes, when even this cannot fix/heal the problems, then I guess it means a proper good bye.

Responding to some really old comments.
Yeah it was adorable sauce!

Well yeah, that's the exact point I was making, people want their cars to look aggressive but the cars personality might actually be super sweet and nice. I guess it probably doesn't hurt anything, other cars probably don't pay any attention to the body designs of cars around them (I can't help but think being more spirit-based beings they'd be beyond stuff like that) and people just think of cars as objects so I guess there really isn't any 'reading a book by its cover' stuff going on anyway. XD SO I guess I don't know what the problem is haha.. other then yeah I hate seeing so many pissed off cars everywhere.

Ah! I remember you drew a face on one of these cars and I remember saying it looked like an evil villain or something. Haha that is indeed Juxtaposition!

Oh man, that WOULD be funny, that'd make a funny drawing. Have the Electra looking all pissed but it's prancing through a field picking daisies, then have the neutral looking bug over there drawing up death-ray plans. XD

If it got to the point where they outlawed gasoline cars I think that'd probably only be when the other powered cars are REALLY common and over-populating the gas cars. I'd think if the were common then the newer powered engines would be cheaper. I bet a converting kit would be no more expensive then buying a new gasoline engine.. heck maybe even less expensive if gasoline engines are rarer at that time in the future.

YEAH.. and then at least treat the car's passing with some level of respect at LEAST, I mean doesn't it deserve it? After everything it's done for you? : /

Dude, you probably didn't expect this at all, but I started bawling |D
See, I started getting all emotional towards the beginning when the song was really soft, and I was looking over the picture, absorbing all the details so I could comment later. Then when the song got stronger... well, you know my imagination. Several images went through my mind. One was of Woodie from behind, watching the sun set behind the piles of Ernie's garbage, which look almost beautiful when reduced to silhouettes... it was kind of a bittersweetness, thinking she was in just the perfect spot to watch the sun set every night and reminisce...
The second was a scene of her being crunched to nothing. However, just as it happens, that scene fades to nothing... and Woodie's spirit of sorts is rising out, sprouting stereotypical angel wings so she could 'fly back home'...
Oh god I can barely write this...
The last image was the one that hit me hardest, hehe. The song you showed actually inspired it, so if it was a deviation, it'd be titled 'Breathe'. It was of Woodie's last seconds, sitting under the cruncher. Her eyes were closed, and her mouth was partway open, drawing in a steady breath. "I swore I could taste the sea..." And then, naturally, she'd be crushed a second later, no more.
Oh god Ian, none of your pictures have hit me this hard, and you didn't even intend it for this one. Well, maybe you did XD But yeah.... I'm crippled with tears, it took me forever to write just this much.

I had some critiques for the picture, but in my mood right now, it just looks too beautiful to find serious flaw ;_; It's so warm looking, and the expressions are so calm, it kind of almost makes me jealous ;w; I want to go somewhere new and watch the sun set there one day...

The video kindof pissed me off after seeing all this, haha. I'd stopped crying for a minute then while watching it, but I was still emotional, so yeah XD At least the fellow doesn't look like Piko, though.
Then of course I started crying again as I reexamined the picture XD

I'm sorry my comment isn't really as insightful (or jibberjabbery) as they usually are <:D;;
