That's what I'm hoping people will be inspired to do! I'm an animist, I believe non-organic things have life. In my experience, once you adopt that mindset and look for signs of life in say.. a car.. you start to notice them, while very faint.
Anyway, enough rambles, yes. Be nicer to your car, it takes care of you and gives you independence. I'd say that's worthy of some respect, wouldn't you?

An animist? I've never heard that term before, though I understand what it is essentially, and I've actually been that way before... Years ago. I used to look at everything and view it as a sentient being, even talk to some of them, yet now I have to struggle to see inanimate objects as alive no matter how much I want to. Considering I took such better care of the things I loved back then I really want to be able to see things in that light again.
I'm planning on getting a late 50's, early 60's VW Beetle, a car I've loved and admired as a child, and both before and after I saw the Herbie movies, I just saw those cars as such charismatic and beautiful vehicles... Now, I just can't see that charismatic life in them anymore, just seeing them as cars, and I really don't know why that is, nor do I like that mindset. Β
How exactly do you look at things and continue to see life in them all, as in what do you look for and what makes you continue to see life in things which are believed not to live, despite logic saying otherwise? Because I really do miss that.

It's not a belief spoken about anymore in modern culture, but from what I hear in the past and currently more tribal communities believe in such things. If that's too fringe for you to feel comfortable putting faith in, then how about this. Buddhists and Hindus believe similar things, that everything has an energy and/or life-force.
I don't know you so it's hard to know exactly what's going on in your mind to make your point of view change like that. My guess would be just that you've aged, it's easier for little kids to be open minded, as we get older social indoctrination kinda takes it's toll and we become more close-minded and believe we know how everything is and how it's always been, and it stays like that until something mind-blowing enough happens to contradict what we thought was true.
You might be hung up on the science perhaps, thinking "oh well.. believing cars could have a soul goes against science." But really it doesn't, at most it goes into the nebulous realm of who the hell knows but we assume not until proven otherwise territory. Science is all about proving things based on detectable and observable evidence, which thus far when it comes to souls.. don't seem to be detectable by such means. The good news for us is that science thusly can't tell us it's impossible because frankly it's what's called an un-falsifiable hypothesis which you'll hear things like god being called.
The reason I believe is because I personally have had my own personal observable evidence, things my car Lilly has done.. very private intimidate conversations and happenings, I'd go into detail but honestly I've listed them to so many other people by this point I'm kinda burnt out with restating it all. Just know they've been some pretty crazy paranormal happenings and it's happened regularly and long enough for me to have no doubt in my mind she's conscious and communicating. That obviously isn't good enough for science, science needs repeatable re-creatable evidence, and the thing I've noticed with spirits is you can never make them do things on command.. even Lilly. I know she loves me, but she still is reluctant or simply can't manage to do things on command.
But even around other cars which don't show me any evidence of being conscious. I basically keep the mindset that.. I'm going to treat them as if they're conscious until I'm ever proven otherwise. It seems to make more sense that if Lilly shows evidence of consciousness it must be something all cars can or do possess. Rather then to believe that I'm special in some way and have the only conscious car in existence.. you know?
Lastly I'll leave you with some things that may be more helpful. Look into Quantum Physics, watch some videos. I think when you find out how insane and almost incomprehensibly nonsensical our universe really is at it's smallest levels, it might open your mind to the truth of how little we REALLY know. Humans have a habit of just loving to think we've got it all figured out, kind of like how people used to be convinced the Earth was flat for example.
Also look into and/or watch this segment about Quantum Consciousness. It's a theory by Stuart Hamroff and Sir Roger Penrose that I take very close to heart and it's what lead me to my current beliefs that as we discover more of the quantum world we'll unlock the truth about the soul. Which, what I think, will turn out to be a naturally occurring force in the universe rather then a religious thing.Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjpEc9β¦
Also watch this if you have the time:

After all that you should at LEAST have some of your faith from your past regained I hope. Let me know. : )

I've just finished the videos you've suggested, and while I don't fully understand what was said, I think I understand a bit of what gist of the subject was. At least I hope so. Hopefully at some point something be able to allow me to understand and be able to feel the same about typically "inanimate" objects as I used to when I was younger.
Also, as much as I'd love to know what sort of things happened between you and her, I can understand how you would have no interest in explaining to someone after you've done it so many times. Along with the fact that since the way you say it sounds very personal and means very much to you, so much to Β to a point where I feel it is none of my business anyway since I couldn't appreciate it as much as you are able to due to obvious reasons.
I'm hopeful that I'll be able to see electronics and the sort as living, sentient beings again, since I actually had a good respect for those sorts of things back then.
