Description
I put a lot of extra effort into this comic, I think about 15 hours over the course of two evenings and an afternoon! Any feedback is greatly welcome.

PS: Not that you probably need a reason to make this any more emotional. But I always found this Hans Zimmer track from COD fitting of Pinky's death and the emotions within. You can even hear the pounding of the crusher and zzz of the magnet as if slowed for dramatic effect: www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_5-Y2…

So a lot of people have been waiting for this comic, waiting and dreading it. I hope that it doesn't disappoint, and I hope that the bitter-sweetness of how the story wraps up at least somewhat helps the story feel like it has a realistically happy ending given the circumstances. It's been a long road, and everything has to come to an end at some point. At least Pinky passed away knowing that she was loved, and that her little girl is grown and happy. I think any mother would be a piece knowing that.

Well the story is pretty self explainitory so I guess I'll go straight to the technicals. The year is 1987, the same year the movie BLT came out and in my mind the year the story too place, so welcome to the first comic that's really going on during the movie. Drawing Pinky with the actual main characters of the movie hopping on by to their next scene was probably one of the first images that came to my mind when thinking up this comic. It just seems really cool to me, seeing my original back story lead up to and mesh up into the plot of the movie it originally sprouted from. I know that the main characters aren't actually seen with Pinky in the movie, and this is placing them having hopped out of scene just prior to Pinky's appearance. The whole idea was based on a discussion of an idea I had with several fans. The idea that, what if Toaster and the gang were actually unintentionally the reason the worthless car's in the song were chosen for death that day. Think about it, almost every car in the song had Toaster and the gang near them when they were plucked up. Andy had them behind him, Dusty of course, Callie had them right in front of her, Lampy was at least near by to Callie, and Ol' Green had them literally sitting in his cab! Plus the magnet always seemed to have some sort of attraction to the main characters, pun intended. Just wondering if they unintentionally by running around down there drew the magnet's deathly glare to those particular cars.. .kind of an unsettling thought eh?

One of my goals for the second panel there was to re-draw that classic scene of Dusty being carried by the magnet. I've stated to several buddies of mine that I kinda hated the sloppy way he was drawn in those frames, he's so stretched and warped he barely looked like a car.. go back and check if you don't believe me. So I added my own hand into drawing it and tried to fix him up to look a bit better...

I also wanna thank my friend Eric for pushing me to work on the comic just a bit longer and add the pollution clouds into a few of the panels. They really DO complete the Ernie's atmosphere being there.. making the sky look all dank and foreboding.

Something else people might notice is that Pinky's eyes crack up after she's dropped on the conveyer belt. This is actually a little noticed detail, but her eyes literally are cracked in the movie at that point. I myself kinda like it, it's just another state of damage to draw Pinky in, I myself decided to add in the dented up bumper.. I really wanted her to look like physically she was pretty ready for death.. just totally beaten weathered and tired. Something I did change for the comic was to have her windshield smashed down which it wasn't in the movie. Logically if the magnet smashed down on top of her to pick her up, what's left of her windshield would be bent down from it.. just a small consistency error I changed. ^^

I know at least one of my friends will be happy to see Violet's photo play a part in this. Yeah, I had that photo planned out for this purpose all the way back when I drew it into the Fairwell Pinky parts. It's nice to finally have this comic submitted and let you guys see what it ended up doing. The idea of the crusher pulling the picture towards it and then blowing it back came from me just thinking about it a little. You know, with that crusher going, that giant smashing block moving up and down, you'd imagine the kind of air displacement there'd be. Massive suction to fill in the crushing area as it lifts up, followed by a massive gust of air as the black slams down.. just consistently over and over. Man, it must have been friggin intense for Rob!

We also see a return of the old worker-man. It wasn't originally my idea, but my buddy Apprentice noted how funny it would be if his job was just to sit in the engine room all day and monitor everything, just sitting there listening to a walkman and reading magazines. That when Toaster jammed the gears at the end of the movie, he must have been like "woah what the heck?!" in a way he almost kinda acts as the grim reaper for Pinky.. getting the crusher going again after it stalls out. The only reason I added in that stalling out part is because Pinky and Dusty are the only two cars in the song that the crusher actually stops and waits till they're inside to crush down.. so I kinda worked in that maybe it was being finicky and having some trouble running at that time. Plus, it's just kinda nice seeing the magnet not getting it's way if just for a moment.. go out with some defiance Pinky!

Drew that 'death tunnel' myself from scratch, I'm actually really really proud how it came out. What follows are a random collection of memories, some you may recognize from other pictures some not. The one memory that spans a couple panels is one people aren't gonna be familiar with.  Just something else to tie my story into the movie, one of the houses that was scan past at the end of the movie in that arial shot is Violet' grandparent's farm, her grandparents on her mother's side. Hopefully I can work this into another picture or something, but it was just a typical thing for Violet's family that they'd all drive up to Ms. Brook's grandparents place for a couple day visit at least twice a year. This is just a random memory from one of those visits where Violet runs out in the middle of a friggin thunderstorm just to give Pinky company out in the barn. That scene with her and Pinky in the barn was intended to last a little bit but it got cut for time. Apprentice and I RPed out a dialogue script for the sequence that I might upload later if people are interested.

Lastly we get the treat of seeing 1987 Violet, hanging out with some unknown friend, plus a little cameo of the Camaro who seems like he may be mellowing out a bit in these post-Pinky days.. wouldn't you agree? The fact that Violet just gets overcome randomly by just this really sad feeling comes from something I remember always thinking as a little kid watching BLT. I remember being a little kid feeling really bad for all the Worthless cars.. not understanding how their masters could be so cruel to send them to this fate when a lot of them dont even look badly damaged. I remember feeling like "well I hope when these cars die their owners feel it somehow!" >: /

So yeah, I'll shut up now. Hope you guys enjoy!

I hae an idea, maybee the dawn was just a nightmare and the actual dawin ia a sunrise and pinky wakes up to a woman and sees that the junkyard which she was housed in had just closed and someone had just bought her and decides to restore her alone, soon she diecides to show her to her family and importantly to her ailing mother, who is HER OLD OWNER and the plot could continue from there or something...
does that sound like a good motivation piece? because i really want to see the story continue and not be a sad ending

I have a legitimate question, cars with "Smarts" Fathers 2004 Toyota Matrix XR has Toyota's VVT-i Mothers 2002 Subaru Outback has Anti Lock Brakes and Grandmothers 2010 Subaru Tribeca Touring has SSAWD (Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive)
so my question is that with engine speed and traction management systems, do the cars personalities become more intelligent as a result and how are their personalities changed by these systems? What are the personalities of my families Cars? I will add media Below,

I am going to be doing a journal where Ernies was under surveillance by the police for being tied to an auto theft ring. And some of the workers are undercover cops including the guy who operates the crusher. Two weeks after the incident in the movie, ernies is raided. Thoughts, suggestions?

Man, You have a talent for making grown men cry! I LOVED the whole series and like many other people I'm just simply amazed how much you were able to expand Pinky's backstory. Very touching indeed and I couldn't help but bawl several times throughout the story! This page though, this is the one that made the reality of Pinky's situation snap into clarity, and I couldn't help but suck my thumb as I cried! I'm just surprised that Violet didn't try to do more to save Pinky. A big part of the reason why I love old machinery is because of this movie, and I swore to save as much of it was was possible (much to my mother's frustration) to prevent more of our historical mechanical treasures from meeting this fate.

Giving an additional comment here because I just noticed the flashy gif in the description.

Again, I cannot stress how much this struck a cord to me. I'm a car fanatic by default, and while I usually thought of Susie The Blue Coupe and the Love Bug for a good car story, I never actually thought about the vehicles shown in The Brave Little Toaster to have a backstory (possibly because I only saw the movie once or twice and the Worthless scene was depressing as is). This entire story you wrote based on this one car was absolutely perfect. I see a bit of my childhood self with kid violet and remembering how much I loved the old 83 Buick Regal we use to have. That, and adding to the fact that I had to part (unwillingly) with my 91 Miata and it too had to be taken to the Junkyard just struck way close to home.

Would it be a bit selfish to say that if I had 3 wishes, I'd easily use one of the wishes to make this an animated short? Because I'd totally do it.

Again, fantastic job, through and through. No promises but if you see a art gift based on all of this your way from me, you'll know its because of this XD

Well done. Brilliantly, well crafted, and inaugurated. This is all very true for some reason to me. Suppose its my imagination, but Ive felt machines to be liike this. They are inanimate, but they are living. As a medic, and a hobbyist mechanic, I can see connections from part to organ. They give the exspressions as we do. A dirt bike with a worn top end is the same as a human with a heart murmer or palpitations. A truck that has been over worked is the same as that of athlete testing his limits in a competition. Somewhat a bit weird, but I think these ways.

For Pinky, I see her pain. The want to be loved and cared for, but all cast away due to her illness or mechanical failures. Her sadness of being sent off, unable to be fixed. The last final recalls before she is on her deathbed, and the life passing flashbacks she has split milliseconds of being clinically dead.  Its all seen.

I have the same feeling for the numerous cars in our yard, parted out,or waiting to be fixed. This, Half-dude, is completly accurate to me. You did a great job on showing Violets emotions toward Pinky, both being childhood friends. All the heartwarming memories theey had, and the terrible forthcoming of events, to this. Well done, and keep up the outstanding work.

.... So it's really that time isn't it? I was really hoping that I'd have the time to steel myself for this. But honestly after you become so attached to someone, there's really no way to truly and totally brace yourself for seeing someone's life end. lol I must confess I am getting chills just sitting here, preparing to dive into this comic, this last moment of everyone's beloved Pinky and deliver my comments postmortem. I don't envy you for this comic. I know that you've been proud of yourself for this series. And as well you should!! This story, this LIFE of Pinky has been one of great joy and terrible sorrow. But it has been an honor and my highest privilege to go back to this point in my childhood with a friend like you and then if only for the smallest of moments see the life of those cars from that scene that always haunted me.

Allow me to clarify why I don't envy you; because I don't mean this insultingly. But I cannot begin to imagine how it felt to detail those scenes, especially one where the crusher finally comes down and you see a face once so full of love now mangled and brutalized nearly beyond recognition. The anticipation leading up to that... the slowness building up to the moment of inevitable demise, and then that smash. That kills me. lol I must comment your abilities to detail such a scene as I would have been unable. And you are exactly right. I HAVE been waiting for this and dreading it incredibly. Between Delacroix falling into increasingly worse disrepair and me lacking the funds to fix her and the monitor of my desktop failing I've not been able to pay you the comment that this comic is due.

This Comic is again bitter sweet but I AM happy that in the end she got to have that one moment to smile, that one moment to feel loved. She might not have had the heart to live in the fast lane, but the slow lane; the lane of tender moments and recollection will forever be at a loss without her. You did wrap up this story very nicely and again I have to commend you for the level of quality you upheld throughout this entire saga. lol even after all this time this moment still punches me with the force of a rupturing boiler. You're one hell of a story teller my friend! It will undoubtedly take me a good deal of time to re-tune my heart strings after that merciless pulling!!

I know it's a little detail but I actually really love how you had the cast of the BLT interact with Pinky, it just really ties it all in and gives the story that sense of completion because THAT'S where her story ends; and the end of the movie. Seeing the other characters, the magnet, the crusher... it really takes me back into the moment; into that scene. It's just wonderfully executed and a very nice attention to detail. I think without them the comic would have been at a loss. And then the tie in at the end where Violet can feel the loss in some way... that really hits home and just really adds to the effect of this feeling like a great loss. And I know that feeling all too well.

XD Again ever the perfectionist I see. You never know, maybe Dusty was a Hybrid!! One part car one part silly putty! XD lol or perhaps that dusty road was near a chemical waste dump! lol but I DID notice that too, lol though to be honest I did like the idea of cars being very flexible and able to move freely!

Please be sure to pass on my compliments to Eric as he was exactly right and it as well worth the effort! Seeing the smog blotting out the sky of Ernie's DOES add this unsettling foreboding atmosphere of woe and discontent; you can practically feel how somber it is in the air!!

If nothing else it was another scar for Pinky to bare, no matter how short she had to bare it. It was like one more mark, one more part of her story displayed upon her body; her own final chapter, a mark of death. As cars cannot speak their bodies, the scars they bare usually are the only way they have the chance to introduce themselves, to tell you about where those number on the odometer came from. Like on Bert, there was a large series of stitches up the back of the driver's seat. Every time I looked at it I remembered the time we had to cut open the seat and place a piece of rod-iron inside of the seat frame because it broke. Or the wooden door handle on the inside of the driver's side door because the old one fell off and my dad's medium of repairs or craftsmanship is usually wood. lol we painted it red and filed it to look nice but it was obviously not supposed to be there. Or how Cassandra's Driver's side window is partially open and uneven; newer than the others. It would be stuff that you overlook, but that you still see. It all carries a story! Like how she tried to let the Secretary know the basic law of Cassandra: no Buddy, No dice! Stuff that are just the little details that make up the car's character and let you know that something there happened, that there is a story there. If you took Pinky out of that scene and say she lived, and you went to a garage and just looked over her, in the real world those marks would STILL be there and telling her story; it's just the scars of life, and it is a beautiful addition and detail that I'm happy you added!! It's a detail/change/deviation/inconsistency or whatever you want to call it that I am GLAD you chose to do. I don't pick a lot of fault with the BLT movie nor would I be one advocating it's editing or change, but it IS a logical creative liberty XD so I'll give it a complete pardon THIS TIME!

It must've been hell for Rob!! Especially with the threat and fear of getting his hand crushed off. lol but you're right, I AM happy to see the bit with the photos in the comic AND the bit with Violet Running out to the Barn where Pinky was parked at her Grandparents house in the rain !! lol I still remember role playing that part out with you.

XD thank you for the direct mention btw!! lol I can only imagine that Rob basically had to remove those gears to get all of the Toaster out of the Crusher XD and after everything that happened I cannot imagine him electing to stay there any longer than he had to!! lol so the little old man climbs down to see what's wrong and sees the side of the Crush and all those gears totally dismantled and just left there to scratch his head!

You should indeed be proud of how that came out! I quite liked those tunnel effects you did. I know it's my Timelord showing so please do pardon me, but it really reminded me of the time vortex from Doctor Who!! lol and that isn't a bad thing!! I do hope you do the continuation where you show off more of that house at the end of the movie, because as I recall you had plans for that Farmhouse. lol and it's okay! I know all too well about having to cut things for time XD Maybe you can finish it up in a couple of months and release it as Pinky DLC to your watchers!!

Again you did an amazing job with this and I am terribly sorry for making you wait so long for the comment. This was one hell of a ride. God bless you for this chance to relive my childhood. Thank you, so very very much. It was far from easy reliving this with the added attachment to Pinky but I was happy for the chance to really get to know her. lol and since Mr. Reese actually had a chance to read this comic and praised it I will consider this 100% honestly and truly cannon. The official tale of our beloved little pink ford who might've only lived half a lifetime, but managed to pack so much living in her short time. Truly truly inspirational and it will undoubtedly stick with me for many decades to come. Thank you Ian.

*long exhale* And so here it is.... my big comment on the finale of Pinky's life. I've stepped over that last hurtle, crossed the line, and am standing at the end without Pinky and a hole left in my heart... I did it. And I will carry the memories with pride. ...and I managed to stay mostly composed throughout this comic. lol I feel cold and am left reeling but I think I managed well enough.... now I think I'm just going to go make some tea and sit in a dark corner for several days with the curtains drawn

Finally, the moment I've been waiting months for, the moment that will finally satiate myself. I appreciate you dedicating a whole first paragraph to your thoughts and feelings pre-reading.. it's very interesting and really lets me have context of any emotional changes you feel throughout, very nice touch. : ) Alright, lets dig in, if Pinky is looking down on you right now, I'm sure she's feeling a wave of peace wash over her spirit knowing that you know the truth about her being gone. <: ]

No insult taken dude! I'm a pretty hard dude, desensitized to most things. I think drawing those final panels, I was thinking more about you and the fans who love Pinky. When you see her mangled face, I was a bit unsure weather or not to keep the panel for a while after drawing it. It was the last panel I did that night, I remember, and I was left wondering.. wow I wonder if that's going to be to painful or graphic for the fans to handle. o-o Ultimately I felt that the fans who truly loved her, wouldn't want me to censor things for them.. hell the movie already did that by not showing it happening on screen. Like I respect the movie for showing us the harsh reality, I thought it'd be just as good for me to carry on the tradition.

YEAH, thank all my years playing the Half-Life series for that tie-in with the movie, I guess while you're at it you can thank Eric for that as well since he introduced me to the series as a kid. But if you didn't know, the main game and the two expansion packs, they take place during the same scenario, at the same time roughly but as different characters. (Gorden Freeman, A security guard, and a HECU Grunt) and there's all these times throughout the games where you're either eavesdropping on a scene of the other characters in the other games or going through the same section of a level in both games but slightly before or after you went though it as a character in one of the other games.. if that makes sense. So yeah, seeing how cool that felt in the games, it really gave me the idea of how cool that would be to see the characters from the movie make an appearance during the scene in the movie. I agree though, it really helps tie in the comic to the movie and make it feel like literal lore of the movie rather then just a separate fan universe.

I'll let Eric know, hell I'll even send him your comment here to read.

Well yes true true.. I figured giving explanation to every bit of damage Pinky has on her body, it would make this moment more palpable to those reading and examining nice and slow. They could look at her face moments before its destroyed.. when she's smiling, and compare it to the same shining new face they saw in the "Storytime" picture years back.. or the familiar face that was pressed against Violet's back as they looked at the photo album together for the last time. Or they could see the bags under her eyes or broken windshield and be harkened back to the first picture she had them in which was the "Waiting for the Axe to fall" picture. I figured it would promote the idea of reminiscing like Pinky herself was doing in her last moments. Well THANK YOU, glad the consistency police aren't coming from me. XD You know, I also thought this.. her smashed down windshield, it helped her to look more helpless, scared, and defeated as she was fed to the compactor.. the crushed down window pillar almost looking like a dog with lowered scared ears.

Yeah crazy hell. Sorry I wasn't able to include that whole RP in this dude.. but as you can see this comic was already getting WAY long and I was getting beat.
I always figured when the crusher shut down toaster kinda just rolled out once the gears stopped trying to spin and loosened up on him

I hadn't considered Reese's viewing of it as a seal of approval, but I guess now that you mention it it is kinda I suppose. <: D Like.. now that it's in the director's mind.. and he obviously doesn't have any rival story for her to compare it to.. maybe it is canon now? Like, canon is whatever's in the director's mind? That's pretty cool dude! Yeah I still watch the movie now kinda thinking/inserting the decades old history into the background while I watch. Maybe wondering where adult Violet and that Camaro Zed are during the movie. hehe

lol unfortunately the moment in which I replied to this was one you had to wait for for a significantly longer time >.> Sorry for that. lol and yeah I've gotten into that habit with your artwork in general! I think it's kind of cool to see how my opinions change as I delve deeper! I actually tend to break up my comments into parts as I write them keeping them in pace with where I am in the picture or artist comments.

I think it was a good move to leave it in there and it's nice to know your mind turned to the fans while you were putting this masterpiece together. And this comic was just that, a masterpiece!!! Heck this could be its own animated short all things considered! And it would be just as impactful as the movie I think on an emotional level! I've not seen many Brave Little Toaster fan works, but I think this is probably some of the most love the movie's seen in a long time. And every fan of that movie has you to thank for bringing this comic, this series, all these moments to life. It's an inspirational little story that sparks that childhood love of the movie, the one moment of years past, right back to life. There's a sort of haunting beauty to it!

That tie in with the main characters just helps this moment feel more real and was a very good choice and a much needed reminder. It takes you back to that moment and really gives you a moment to prepare and just get ready for the shoe to fall.

lol thanks! What did he say about that?

Seriously everything you did with this story was wonderful and a very fun experience to be a part of, and sitting and waiting for each new page to come out helps you to feel more connected to the story and helps pull you into the moment when suddenly there it was in your inbox. It was a wild ride and one I hope to experience again with your stories in the future!lol and dude, Mr. Reese was the guy in charge of the movie basically, so his opinion in my mind would matter a lot, even if its unofficial if he were to say "Yeah I imagine this as canon" that would be a seal of approval in my book! And his post where he encouraged so many other fans to go check this out was an astounding moment! This was a fantastic and enriching experience for a childhood memory all but forgotten. Thanks for this whole series man, and for your wonderfully fleshed out and touching characters! This whole series was an incredible showcase of what you can do when you put your mind to it!
