Description The Leaves Have Fallen

The leaves have fallen into the dust.
The dust has swallowed them up.
The sun sets on tanning stone.
The moon has risen, the trees sigh.
The wind blows through the oak's branches.
Night comes, and the harp and flute play.
Candles and torches alight in the temple.

Robes and tunic, dulled by fire.
Swirling in the dance of ages.
A cry of hope, a cry of despair;
A chance to be reborn.
Dust rises beneath dancing feet
And drums pound in the quarry.
Black as pitch is the unlit space.

The dancing stops, the chanting stops.
Arms are uplifted high.
The sky is lit only by these feeble lights,
And the ones given by the night.
Reaching across the vast gulfs;
Parsecs and eons away.
The cry is returned, from world to world.

The torches are doused, the night has ended.
Soon the sun will be reborn.
Life goes on, ceaseless, moving...
But careless? No.
Just endless.
