Description
The USS Ishimura is Covenant-class and was originally intended to be a replacement to the Constitution-class. However, with a leap in technologies, it was decided to scrap development only after three had been constructed. Instead, starfleet opted for the refit program.

the Covenant-class is classified as a heavy cruiser, though it has a complement of small fighter craft, mainly used to combat Orion pirates who use similar small vessels often to terrorize settlements on the frontier. The fighters are mainly used in atmospheric combat, where a starship cannot easily go. The class also has two hangar decks, one forward and one aft. With the covenant class acting in a more patrol/defence role, it freed up some Constitutions to perform their intended mission: Exploration and research.
