After finally learning Kris'tran's true fate, Moth struggles to know how or when to break the news to Misha. She hides her sorrow in the open fields of Besteng, where the flat open plains allow her to quickly see any approaching packmates. The only witnesses are The Spires, rising in the distance, silent as ever before.
