Thanks man. That's an old one back when I first tried _boxtiling (and _mobius) in a tuber style piece.

Great image. I would love to learn that program, but seeing how I spend all my time working on 3ds max, I don't really have the time right now. Is mandelbulb hard to get a grip on?

HalTenny In reply to spectre1130 [2011-11-05 00:17:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. The program isn't to bad to learn, particularly if you go through a few tutorials. It does take some time to learn what formulas work well together and what they do...

Fractals, seems quite a bit like how we should be interacting with each other, and everything around us. Symbiotic. Everything depends on the survival of everything else. One feeds the other. Sometimes waste from one creature is the food of another and so forth. Simple idea, grand experiment. Supreme philosophy and understanding of how things are. Maybe fractals are the answer, hmm?

Oddly enough, I made a comment to the wife about your works yesterday, and in that comment, I put Fractals in the same sentence as God, almost one representing the other. The one constant in the universe is math. Fractals are all about math. I hated math when I Was back in high school. Wanted to tell it to go solve it's own problems, I have my own to deal with. As for God in the numbers, think about 1.618. It is considered to be the Divine number. Why is that? Most scholars, from as far back as Davinci, and most likely even before him, considered the number Phi 1.618 as being divine because everything under the sun that isn't man made, is proportionally 1.618 times larger or smaller than it's parts put together. The finger tip is 1.618 smaller than the next finger section and so on. Think of the Nautilus shell. Sliced down the middle, each compartment is either 1.618 times larger, or smaller than it's neighbor. Same with plant cell structures, and so on. Interesting concept, fractals. Each section can be gone into, and millions upon millions of the same thing appears over and over (if you do it right, LOL) no matter how large/small, far/close you look at one. Just something to think about, LOL!

So, magical as the Mandlebulb is, there are some things it can't do on its own...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HalTenny In reply to aegiandyad [2011-05-28 00:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Yes, most of the pieces I do are a combination of three to five formulas actually... I haven't used a single formula by itself since I first started out. Thanks! Good to hear from you too!

Really nice! When you did it did you start out with this in mind, or did you come across it by trial and error and tweak it?

HalTenny In reply to flytier [2011-05-17 21:27:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Nothing planned. I've been working tweaks on the same parameters for a few days and did try to work at longer, twisty tentacles...
