This is so intrinsically beautiful, if that makes any sense.
I would venture the guess that this really caught my attention for the colors used at first. They are so bright and vibrant, while being perfectly muted in areas. Even the sort of muddy violet-browns are exquisite and eye-popping. All the blues, violets, reds and greens of the ground sit very well agaisnt the slight gold of the far off horizon and segway into the light grey-violets that dominate most of the pillars realstate, into the shockingly vivacious greens depicted in the figure. Most of the colors that round out the figure are more gray than any other color, but it completely works with the more audacious colors surrounding it to actually draw more attention to it as a focal point in itself as a whole.
And the technique used in the lower parts of the middleground and background as a fluid and intentionally unabashed painterly broad stroked style to the tight and regimented exactness of the upper figure, and the skulls comprising the base of the pillar. I would say you are a master of fluidity, blending colors, forms, and painting styles so effectively.
There is so much energy emanating from this piece, as well. The sheer power being weilded in its hands seem almost too much to bear, or that it's about to make a very powerful attack against the viewer. Of course the way you painted everything so expertly and so lively really pushes this feature. There is real feeling in the strokes you used, and also the reservation and strictness displayed, again creating another fluid dynamic.
The overall feeling of this is godlike. I'd love to have this as a large print, but my hopes are dwindling, as this is for a licensed property.
