TOTALLY LOVELY TREE..AMAZING. THE HOUSE IS SECONDARY, BUT HAS VERY INTERESTING LINES. I SEE WHY THE HOUSE HAD TO TAKE SECOND PLACE. THIS TREE MUST HAVE BEEN HUGE...SINCE WE LIVE IN THE SAME TOWN, I AM TRYING TO FIGURE WHICH McD THIS WAS AT?

Thank you for the technique tip! I suck at drawing leaves, and I've been looking at different ways to draw them.

Ben,
You do as well or better than I do at leaves. I don't stylize as you do. I wish I could.

Oooooh...I love that tree! Somehow the hatching seems to give it movement, as if there was a light breeze. And yes, this right-handed artist would have used upper-right to lower-left hatching. I've tried UL-LR but it's feels extremely awkward...like batting from the opposite side of the plate.

Thank you. Interesting comment. Well, I throw a grenade and shoot a rifle right handed. I bat a baseball right handed, although I can throw anything with either hand--more power right handed; better accuracy left. Eating, writing and painting is left handed. If you see my late pencils you'll see I go UL>UR>horizontal>vertical and then start the process all over again over 30 to 40 layers. I guess I must be certifiably queer--in the old fashioned sense of the term.

Fascinating...did you work at being ambidextrous? I don't think I've ever known anyone who could throw with both hands. I realized this morning that when I need to hatch in a direction that's not comfortable I actually rotate my surface. I suppose I've always done that without ever really paying attention.

For throwing I did work at being ambidextrous. I simply took a mental note of every step in throwing right handed and then practiced them one at a time left handed till I mastered that. I was amazed at the one difference, the greater accuracy throwing left handed.
Rotating the surface would do it. Someone said she had to do it a certain way so as not to smudge her drawing with her hand on the page. Hmm. I never do have my hand on the page; only the point of the pencil touches the page.

They would.
I'm left handed, and my friend is right handed, and we do this kind of thing completely reversed. I fill the paper from the right to the left, she fills it from the left to the right, and when using sugh techniques, well, we do it in opposite ways.
The crown of the tree is really nice-looking, it shows that you did take a genuine interest in putting this down on a paper - and the part of the house showing in the background made me smile when I read the description.

It's interesting. You're left handed and "fill the paper from the right to the left". I'm left handed and as I say I go from left to right.
Thanks for you compliment and comments. Glad I made you smile.
